Dundee will look to distance themselves from the relegation playoff spot as they welcome Motherwell to Dens Park on Saturday afternoon.
Dundee bounced back from their 4-0 thrashing at Easter Road by Hibs, as they went to the other side of the capital and won 0-1 away at Hearts to move two points clear of the relegation playoff spot.
That’s now three wins in five for Tony Docherty’s side, and they are aiming for back-to-back home wins for the first time since they won three on the bounce back at the start of December.
Motherwell put an end to their four-match winless run last time out, as they defeated bottom side St Johnstone 3-2 at Fir Park on an afternoon where all three of my selections landed.
However, Michael Wimmer’s men have struggled badly on their travels in recent months, winning one and losing six of their previous eight away matches (W1-D1-L6).
How the bookies view it: Dundee slight favourites
Dundee are favourites to record successive home wins for the first time since December, with BoyleSports pricing them at 21/20.
The Steelmen are 21/10 with the same firm to address their poor recent away form, whilst the draw is 23/10.
Head to head: Two out of three ain’t bad for Dundee
Dundee won the opening two meetings between the pair this season, including a 4-1 success when the sides last faced off at Dens at the beginning of December.
Motherwell did claim some sort of revenge in their last clash, winning 2-1 at Fir Park at the end of November.
Players to watch: More goals for Murray?
Simon Murray is the Dark Blues top scorer in the Premiership this campaign, with the boyhood Dundee fan netting on 16 occasions, including in seven of his last eight matches.
Motherwell midfielder Callum Slattery has scored four goals in his last five appearances, including the equaliser against St Johnstone last weekend.
Predicted line-ups:
Dundee are expected to be missing Seb Palmer-Houlden after he went off injured at Tynecastle last weekend.
Motherwell will be missing the injured Ross Callachan, Zach Robinson, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos, Archie Mair, Jack Vale, Liam Gordon, Paul McGinn and Kofi Balmer.
Dundee: Carson, Astley, Shaughnessy, Robertson, Larkeche, Mulligan, Sylla, Cameron, Tiffoney, Adewumi, Murray
Motherwell: Balcombe, O'Donnell, Koutrombis, Casey, Thompson, Sparrow, Halliday, Paton, Slattery, Miller, Watt
Anything else catch the eye?
Dundee’s opening 34 contests in the Scottish Premiership this season have averaged an eye-catching 3.59 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals paying out in 24 (71%) of them.
Those numbers rise even further when playing at home, with their 17 Premiership fixtures at Dens Park averaging a staggering 4.00 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals banking in 14 (82%) of them.
The Steelmen’s matches have also been full of goals this season, with their opening 34 Premiership matches averaging 2.88goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals also paying out in24 (71%) of them – including in nine of their last 12 – and I’m expecting the goals to flow in the city of discovery on Saturday.
