DENMARK and Finland face each other in Group B's opening match at the Parken Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Red-White have the added bonus of home advantage in this pool, playing all three of their group games at their Copenhagen base.
Indeed, Kasper Hjulmand ‘s crew are housed in the same section as big-hitters Belgium, but Denmark are one of the tournament dark horses, and they could well have a decent run if they can navigate their way through Group B.
The Danes will have earmarked this fixture with Finland as one where three points are crucial if they are to qualify from the group.
Finland, meanwhile, have been dreaming of dining at Europe's top table since 1938 and this was their first successful qualifying campaign in 33 attempts.
The Eagle-Owls should give a good account of themselves when gracing the grand stage for the first-time ever but getting out of this group will be a testing task for Markku Kanerva's men, who are 2/5 with PaddyPower to prop up the section.
Outright Betting
Denmark have lost just two of their last 34 competitive contests and the hosts are heavily fancied on Saturday evening at 4/9 with William Hill.
Finland have failed to win any of their last six international assignments and they are big underdogs here at 17/2 with UniBet and the draw is an unfancied 16/5 with Bet 365.
Betting Angles
Denmark are worthy favourites to hit the ground running in Group B but there is little value in siding with the hosts at a lowly 4/9 with William Hill.
I'll therefore head to the Bet Builder market and combine Denmark to win with under four goals in the game which pays 20/23 (Bet 365).
The Danes upward trajectory in recent years can be attributed to their well-schooled defence, with the Red-White recording 12 clean sheets across their last 21 competitive contests.
Hjulmand has an excellent array of defensive options in front of goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and it's worth noting that Denmark have shutout their opponents in five of their last six home fixtures.
Indeed, Finland are unlikely to roll over and they have shown defensive grit in the last couple of years, but Denmark should make a winning start to their finals campaign.
With that in mind, I'm more than happy to proceed with a Danish success in a game that features fewer than four match goals – a bet that would have delivered profit in five of Denmark's last seven victories.
That train of thought could also see value lie with the 5/6 on offer with BetVictor by backing the hosts to overcome a -1 start on the asian handicap.
Here we would only lose if Denmark failed to win the game and that makes plenty of appeal on an evening where I reckon the Red-White, roared on by a raucous home support, will have too much firepower for Finland.
