BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION will go in search of a third-successive Premier League victory when Aston Villa visit the Amex Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Roberto De Zerbi secured his maiden win as Brighton manager in memorable fashion as his side ruined Graham Potter’s return by romping to a 4-1 win over Chelsea a fortnight ago.
The Seagulls followed up that success by staging a stunning comeback to secure a 3-2 win away at Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.
That victory moved Albion up to sixth place in the Premier League standings so there is definitely a feel-good factor surrounding the south coast club currently.
Aston Villa will also be feeling better about themselves after Unai Emery enjoyed a dream start to life in the Villa Park hosteat by steering his new charges to a 3-1 victory over Manchester United last weekend.
The Spaniard will be hoping that performance will act as a springboard for Villa's season and he will be keen for his 14th-placed side to back that up with another strong showing on Sunday.
Outright Betting
Brighton have avoided defeat in nine of their last 10 Premier League home games and that is reflected in the odds, with a Seagulls success chalked up at 5/6 (Bet 365).
Aston Villa, who are without a win in their last eight top-flight road trips, arrive at the Amex as 10/3 (BetVictor) outsiders while a point apiece has been priced up at 14/5 (UniBet).
Betting Angles
I suspect this match could be closer than the odds suggest so I'll head to the Bet Builder market and combine over zero Aston Villa goals and over two Aston Villa corners at 20/21 (Bet 365).
Admittedly, these two sides are currently situated at different ends of the table, but Aston Villa will come into this fixture with their tails up and they should be capable of troubling Brighton's creaky backline.
Not only have Seagulls' posted just one clean sheet across their last 11 Premier League games – which came against lowly Nottingham Forest – but Roberto De Zerbi's rearguard has been breached on multiple occasions in four of their last five top-flight fixtures.
With this in mind, and given that Unani Emery has inherited a side that contains some excellent attacking players, I fancy what will be an upbeat Aston Villa side to strike on Sunday, and I'll back the visitors to earn at least three corners.
While Villa have averaged a middle-of-the-range 4.43 corners per-game in the Premier League this season, they have more often than not comfortably covered the 3+ line in seven of their last eight league games.
It's also worth pointing out that the above-mentioned Bet Builder would have paid out in last week's win over Man United, not to mention the same combination would have also clicked in Brighton's last three league games, all which adds to the appeal of supporting the same wager this weekend.
Given that Aston Villa are far from watertight themselves, backing Both Teams to Score also looks worth taking on at 17/20 with William Hill.
BTTS has copped in each of Brighton's last three Premier League games – a sample that produced a combined total of 14 match strikes – and another high-scoring shootout involving De Zerbi's attack-mined outfit wouldn't come as a surprise on Sunday.
