With the 2024/25 campaign now gathering pace, the bookies have two clear favourites in the Premier League top scorer odds market.
Here’s our pick to win out in a battle that has typified the first half of this decade, much of which has seen Man City and Liverpool battle it out for supremacy.

Selections to watch
Mohamed Salah
After arguably beginning to fade leading up to the departure of former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, Mohamed Salah has been completely transformed under Arne Slot this season. 18 goals and 13 assists in 19 games is a simply remarkable return, with Salah firmly establishing himself as the league's best player once more.
Another penalty goal helped Liverpool to a 2-2 draw with Manchester United at the weekend, although most fans will have felt disappointed with the result considering the Red Devils are currently languishing in 13th place.
However, win, lose or draw, one thing is inevitable at the moment, and that is Mohamed Salah being on the scoresheet. He leads the Golden Boot race by two clear goals over rival Erling Haaland, with bookies fancying him as the favourite to take home the accolade.
At 4/7, the Egyptian King is in the driving seat.
Erling Haaland
Despite having a torrid time of late, pre-season favourite Erling Haaland managed two goals at the weekend in a 4-1 thumping of West Ham.
It is testament to the Norwegian's abilities that during what many would consider a ‘poor' season for the striker, he still has 16 goals and is second in the Golden Boot race.
However, Haaland is no longer the favourite to take the accolade, having now slipped to 11/8 odds. It is a rare thing indeed for one man to snatch three successive Golden Boot awards.
Haaland can but hope that Salah has another downturn in form in the spring, but on current evidence, it would be a naive thought.
Alexander Isak
Seemingly from nowhere, Newcastle talisman Alexander Isak has stormed into third place in the race to be the Premier League's top scorer.
Helped in no small part by six goals in his last four games, the tall Swedish forward has 13 goals now for the Magpies, sitting only three behind Haaland.
A nailed on starter and the focal point of Eddie Howe's three-pronged attack, Isak is making a strong bid for the Golden Boot, reducing his deficit to Salah to only five goals.
Despite being an outsider, bookies are pricing him at 6/1, so he is still in with a fair chance.
Our Premier League top scorer prediction
Our pick is, unsurprisingly, Salah. But the odds are lousy at present, so if available, a double on Liverpool winning the title and Salah claiming the golden boot would be the obvious choice to make the most of the top scorer betting market, especially as he’s won it before:

As can be deduced from the above table, it would also continue a curious trend into a third successive year, whereby the golden boot winner also represents the title-winning side. It would certainly mark a drastic turnaround after the years spanning 2014-2022, none of which saw any golden boot winner also lift the title.
With a Salah / Liverpool golden boot and title double, the Reds would additionally continue a proud club tradition, as they currently have the highest number of golden boot awards (seven, awarded to four different players).
Other notable Premier League top scorer trends
- Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane are the only Englishmen to lift a golden boot this century.
- Under the 38-game PL format (1995/96-present) the average tally from golden boot winners is 25.8 goals.
- During this same period, a tally of 25 goals has been enough for the golden boot on 15 of a possible 29 occasions.
- Only five of the 33 prior Premier League seasons have seen multiple winners.
