We’re into the second week at Wimbledon and there’s plenty for the Pimm’s and lemonade brigade to get excited about today.
World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz is back in action and faces his toughest test yet against 2021 finalist Matteo Berrettini.
The young matador has played some mesmerising shots so far but Alcaraz has also looked a little vulnerable in his last two matches.
He found big-serving Nicolas Jarry a tough nut to crack on Saturday and faces a similar challenge against the Italian grass-court specialist.
It went to five sets when these players faced off in the Australian Open last year and it was Berrettini who came out on top.
But Alcaraz has won their other two meetings and is Bet365’s 2/5 hot favourite today, with his opponent at 2/1.
If Berrettini hits top form this one could be tight and the same firm price a four-set match at 8/5 while the odds increase to 12/5 for one further set.
I’m more drawn to the 13/8 they offer on the match having over 1.5 tie-breaks, with that bet landing in two of their previous three meetings.
There’s also a battle of the Brit bashers, with Andy Murray’s conqueror Stefanos Tsitsipas taking on Christopher Eubanks, who ended the hopes of Cameron Norrie.
The Greek is 1/3 favourite with most firms but the young American could give him a few scares. Backing over 42.5 games pays 17/20 at Ladbrokes.
Women’s champion Elena Rybakina battered Katie Boulter on Saturday and should be too strong for Beatriz Haddad Maia as well today.
I can see the Kazakh ace winning in straight sets and that pays a best 10/11 with VBet.
There’s some football for punters to sink their teeth into as well, with action in Sweden’s top flight. Fallen giants Gothenburg sit second bottom and face a must-win game at home against Varbergs, the only side below them in the table.
These teams have mustered just one goal between them in the last three rounds of fixtures so under 2.5 strikes looks the shout at 10/11 with SkyBet.
Super singles
- Over 1.5 tie-breaks in Alcaraz v Berrettini (13/8, Bet365)
- Rybakina win in straight sets (10/11, VBet)
Racing Tips
Rizzel has picked out two of his best chances for Monday, coming at Ayr and Ripon at decent prices.
A really good day at Wimbledon yesterday with 4 confirmed winners and a pending result waiting on Djokovic who currently leads 2 sets to 0. If he can win tomorrow it will see a clean sweep for the first time this tournament and a profit of +8.46 units for the day, which would then take the profits so far at wimbledon to over +32 units.
At this stage of the tournament matches start to get trickier to predict but my picks for Monday are as follows:
Keys-Andreeva
I feel this could be the end of a remarkable tournament for Andreeva. She is certainly one for the future & could possibly frustrate Keys with her movement. However, the power & grass court experience of Keys should be enough & her serve has been getting her so many points so far this week.
Keys 2-0 1.5 units 2.1 Skybet
Dimitrov – Rune
I have not been impressed with Rune’s last 2 performances & he’s quite lucky to get to be here. He has also been committing a large number of double faults (not unusual for him) & I see the trend continuing here, especially if he’s under pressure as expected. He hit 9 & 11 in his last 2 matches so worth a small punt.
Rune Over 5.5 Double Faults 1.5 units 1.83 Bet365
Rune 8+ Double Faults 0.5 units 3.5 Bet365
Will likely have a couple more plays in the morning.
Some more plays that I like for today’s matches:
Alcaraz – Berrettini
Berrettini has been in superb form so far this tournament & his serving has been key to that. I have not been overly impressed by Alcaraz who is still adapting to the service & struggled against Jarry who is levels below Berrettini on grass. Can see this being a tight match with the possibility of 4/5 sets & tie breaks. If that does happen then every chance Berrettini hits a decent number of aces. The 20+ is a long shot but if the match is long then it has every chance. I was tempted by the Berrettini win or plus sets/games handicap but I will just go with the aces in this match up.
Berrettini over 12.5 aces 2 units 1.83 Bet365
Berrettini 20+ aces 0.5 units 4.33 Bet365
Dimitrov – Rune, Haddad Maia – Rybakina
Rune has not been playing or serving that well so far at Wimbledon so Dimitrov will get chances. As long as he serves well he should prevail. Rybakina on grass will really test the movement of Haddad Maia with her power and on this service should really be too strong.
Dimitrov + Rybakina 1.5 units 2.09 Bet365
Alexandrova – Sabalenka
Alexandrova will need to serve a high 1st serve percentage as any 2nd serves will come back with powerful returns from Sabalenka. That will likely put her under pressure & lead to doubles. So far Alexandrova has hit 20 doubles in her 3 matches & often struggles with her serve. Although a long shot if this match is close or goes to 3 sets every chance she hits more than 10.
Alexandrova over 6.5 double faults 1.5 units 1.9 Bet365
Alexandrova 10+ double faults 0.5 units 4.5 Bet365

Djokovic comes through to finish off the job today to complete the clean sweep yesterday and a profit of +8.46 units making a total of +32.76 units at Wimbledon so far. Not been a great start today going 0-3 so some of this profit will likely take a hit.

Alcaraz – Berrettini
I was deliberating this one & have decided to go ahead. As long as the Berrettini serve is on fire as it has been then he has every shot in this match. All 3 previous head to heads have been close & taken to deciding sets & there is every chance of at least one tie break here. As long as there are 4 sets this should come in.

A truly abysmal day today for the first loss at Wimbledon & it wipes out all of the 5 winners yesterday. Apologies if anyone followed.
Really unlucky with some of the picks but despite this loss today Wimbledon profit over the tournament so far is still +21.76 units.
