Djokovic to Beat Nadal 2-0 @ 4/7
Tennis fans around the world will be rubbing their hands with glee at a match up many feared we’d never see again. These two tennis greats have met 59 times previously, and the head-to-head is as close as can be: 30-29 in Djokovic’s favour.
However, these are not the usual circumstances for a Djokovic vs Nadal clash. Rarely have they met so early in a match, and rarely have the odds been so skewed. The reality is that Nadal hasn’t beaten a top opponent in the better part of two years, despite the flashes he’s shown in his comeback from injury this season.
Djokovic has been far from his best either, but he’s still a good way above Nadal. We expect that the Spaniard will throw the kitchen sink at Djokovic and make a decent fist of this clash, but don’t see him getting a set. Expect a two set victory for the Serbian.
Griekspoor to Win a Set vs Alcaraz @ 5/2
Where we do see a pseudo upset happening is in Carlos Alcaraz vs Tallon Griekspoor on Monday. We’re not quite confident enough to go for Griekspoor winning this one, but fancy the Dutchman’s chances of nabbing a set off the No. 2 seed.
Alcaraz dropped a wayward set earlier on in the tournament last time he was at Roland-Garros, with Dutch qualifier Jesper de Jong taking the third from him. We see a similar result with Griekspoor. The world No. 27 isn’t a natural clay-courter, but can still play at a high level and has twice pushed Alcaraz to tiebreaks in the past.
Expect him to give the bookies’ favourite a fright here and win a set.
