THANK f**k it’s Friday is all I can say – it’s been a rum week down’t Mill and I’ll be kicking back with a few beers and a Brazilian to smooth my way into the weekend.
SPORT RECIFE v INTERNACIONAL (11pm)
I loved Sport Recife last season and they were a great team to back for games featuring both teams to score…they took a few hidings but always managed to get themselves on the scoresheet.
This campaign has seen plenty more beatings but unfortunately for the hosts, there have been much fewer goals to celebrate; with 27 played, Recife sit with just the even poorer Parana separating them from bottom spot with very few indicators of a change in their fortunes.
Tonight’s visitors to The Estádio Adelmar da Costa Carvalho are none other than big-hitters Internacional who are currently tied for top place but will leapfrog Palmeiras with a win on Brazil’s eastern coast.
It has to be said that H2H’s are enough to put you off this fixture and I sense much of the pricing has been generated on the fairly benign basis of historic match-ups. Whilst I understand this fully, I also recognise that Recife had much more about them in those recent H2H’s than they have displayed in recent games – there is a much more obvious gulf between the two at present.
Recife have conceded 5-1-2-0-2-0-2-2-3-3-1-4 goals in their last consecutive 12 matches whilst Internacional have scored 2-1-1-1-2-0-0-1-1-3-1-3-1-1-2-3-2 across their own last 17 games – I don’t think it’s a matter of IF the visitors score but more one of WHEN they score:
