After a strong start to the 2024/25 campaign saw Huddersfield Town win all of their opening four League One fixtures, Terriers fans must have been dreaming of an instant return to the Championship. However, the club's form has since taken a nose dive, resulting in Michael Duff's side currently occupying 8th place. This leaves Huddersfield outside the playoffs, let alone battling for promotion.
In response, we take a look at whether the Terriers can claw back their form from the season's first few weeks and reestablish themselves as title contenders.

Below are the current top 10 favourites to win the League One title, which shows Huddersfield to be fourth favourite despite their less than favourable league position.
Jekyll and Hyde performances characterise Huddersfield Town's season
Huddersfield stand at 25/1 to win the League One title, despite currently being nine points adrift of a high-flying Wycombe side who are eight matches unbeaten in the league.
Speaking to Yorkshire Live this week, Duff stated that “turning up mentally and physically is the first port of call” if his team are to defeat Manchester United's Under-21s in the EFL Trophy. Sadly for his side, a strong mentality has eluded them this season, causing their slide in the league.
After their formidable start, the Terriers subsequently lost five of their next six games, a run which has proven irrecoverable at present. Despite five goals from attacking midfielder Ben Wiles, and a further four from marksman Josh Koroma, this has only been enough for a 50% win rate that has seen the club's odds drop significantly to 25/1. They are now clear outsiders in the title race and have a lot of catching up to do.
However, despite this fall off, the club is currently five games unbeaten in the league. 25/1 seems a very fair price considering their turnaround, but with a lot of the season left to play it is dubious as to whether Huddersfield will retain this hot streak.
Huddersfield Town's rivals have been in fine form
Similarly, the main three rivals Huddersfield need to contend with have all been in excellent form themselves. Birmingham are still favourites for the league at 2/5, despite having been leapfrogged by Wycombe Wanderers, whose odds stand at 11/1. The Blues conceded a 96th minute Mitchell Pinnock equaliser against Northampton Town, which saw Wycombe jump to two points clear at the top.
Swiftly behind Wycombe in the predictions are Wrexham. Phil Parkinson's side are on a five match unbeaten streak in the league, the latest extension of which came in a narrow 1-0 home win over Mansfield Town. The Welsh outfit's odds stand at 12/1.
Huddersfield may be able to reel in their competitors
Although it will be tough, Michael Duff's men have proven their quality on multiple occasions this season. A 4-0 away thumping of Bolton Wanderers, as well as a confident 2-0 victory over Peterborough have shown that their rocky patch may just be a blip for Duff's generally well-oiled machine.
With five wins from seven home games, it is also clear that keeping the John Smith's stadium as a fortress will be pivotal if Huddersfield want to make a push back towards the top.
As the club were pre-season favourites for promotion, Duff has come under fire for some lacklustre performances, but there is still time for the club to turn things around. Now would most certainly be a good time to bet on the Terriers before a continuation of their rich vein of form sees their odds shorten.
