All three of yesterday's horses were shorter in the market when they raced but none came back as a winner.

The Doyen Chief was smashed in the betting, after being put up at 11/4, he went off just a little bigger than EVS, making it a real shame that we beat the market by a lot but came away with nothing. He didn't jump brilliantly for a chase debut, and it was a strange ride by Tom Cannon who couldn't make his mind up whether to sit handy or be at the rear, with him constantly flipping between the two. The horse put down on the third from final fence and lost all momentum, making it difficult to bridge the gap from the other two.

Rialannah and Ideal De Romay were equally as poor, both weakening when turning for home.

Miss Wong 7/4 – Nottingham 2.45

It's been a while since I've had a selection run, my last two were both non-runners then of course I've had my time of inbetween that time also. I see no reason why the meeting at Nottingham won't go ahead, so I've picked out one horse from there that I like the look off.

I've gone hunting in a race for two year olds, which is something I try to avoid more times than most as they tend to throw up wacky results here and there. My selection is one of the few in this lineup with racecourse experience, and from those that have had a run, Miss Wong certainly brings better form to the table with her encouraging placed effort on debut last month.

There were plenty of positives to take from Miss Wongs debut run, which saw her finish only 1L back in third behind two decent looking sorts from top stables in Consent and Music Piece. Consent won comfortably on debut by 2L before finishing second to Music Piece. Music Piece finished only 1L behind Aiden O'Briens Ballet Slippers, and that one has since finished third in the Group 1 Fillies mile at Newmarket last weekend. Given my selection was able to finish as close as she did to Music Piece on debut, it's hard to fault the form and with progression likely after only one career start, she could be tough to beat if taking a step forward.

There are a few interesting new-comers from top stables, and money has come in for the Ralph Beckett-trained Revoir who currently shares favouritism with my selection. Magic Runner is another interesting debutant from the Andrew Balding yard and also warrants respect. Not a lot caught my eye in regards to the others with race experience, and this could very well be fought out between my selection and the two newcomers just mentioned.

Cartwheel 7/2 – Kempton 6.15

The majority of this field haven't raced, but the ones who have, Darn Hot Mystery deserves to be the favourite as she has arguably the best form and has finished third and second on her two starts to date. However, Henry Candy's yard has been really poor this year and he has only managed three winners, so I couldn't be touching any of his runners. Cartwheel caught my attention when I tipped up a horse in the Beverley race he ran her debut in. She was backed off the boards, I think she opened at around 20/1, maybe even bigger and was smashed into 4/1, even shorter throughout the day, so somebody associated with this horse clearly thinks she is a decent prospect.

She shaped well on debut at a tricky track. She was keen, which is often to be expected with 2-year-olds on debut, but it didn't help that she was drawn in the car park in stall 9 which isn't the place you want to be as you cannot get the cover needed. Overall, she put in a solid first start and given her pedigree it suggests she would suit further, it was a nice introduction.

Today, they have decided to go up by two furlongs, which should suit her a lot more. She is by Lightening Spear and out of a mare who stayed a mile and has produced winners further than today's trip. She has been given no favours by the draw as she is drawn in stall 13 of 14, so she'll have to be alert from the start to get a prominent position.

The bookies are having nothing to do with leaving her at big prices today and she is around 7/2, so it would be interesting to see if the money piles in again.

Jordans 9/2 (Paddypower/Betfair) – Punchestown 3.20

It has been a while since I placed a bet on the jumps racing in Ireland, but Wednesday's card at Punchestown is a very good midweek meeting with a couple of Graded races. The first Graded race on the card is the Novice chase over the extended 2m 2f. It's a competitive race with no real outstanding claims but I thought Jordans was worth a few quid for the in form Joseph O'Brien stable.

Joseph's usual rider JJ Slevin is absent from this meeting and hasn't ridden since an unseat earlier this month so if I were to take a guess, he might be injured, so Richard Deegan gets the call up, which isn't a bad thing as he has been the third most used jockey for this stable this year in Ireland. Jordans made a decent stable debut last time out at Listowel when he was punted into 2/1F but was beaten by a bigger-priced stablemate. He didn't jump perfectly that day, but it was his first run in just over 200 days and it was on good ground, which wouldn't have suited him, and I think that a slower surface will allow him to jump better.

He was previously trained in France and has some decent pieces of form from over bumpers, hurdles and chases. He has had three runs over fences so far, two of which have seen him finish as runner-up, but with how the yard is pinging out winners on both the flat and jumps, I think the right time to catch this horse could be now.

This Grade 3 race isn't that strong, and similar races later on in the season will be much tougher, so I think this is a nice opportunity for Joseph's new recruit to bag some decent prize money and a Class 1 win. The fact he was strongly fancied in the market last time out on stable debut suggests he has been working very well, and JJ was on board him last time out over the eventual winner, which is another positive to take away from that run despite him not being victorious.
