Tuesday 16 March | Age: 4yo+ | Prize: £125,000
The Supreme Novices' Hurdle is traditionally the curtain-raiser the Cheltenham Festival. Open to horses aged four years or older who are novices (meaning they hadn’t won a race over hurdles prior to that season), the Supreme Novices' Hurdle is run on the Old Course over a distance of about two miles and half a furlong (2 miles and 87 yards).
2.10 Sporting Life Arkle Challenge Trophy Novices' Chase (Grade 1)
Tuesday 15 March | Age: 5yo+ | Prize: £175,000
The Arkle Challenge Trophy – sometimes known as just the ‘Arkle’ – is a Grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase raced over 2 miles which pays tribute to Arkle, a three-time winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup in the mid-1960s.
2.50 Ultima Handicap Chase (Grade 3)
Tuesday 16 March | Age: 5yo+ | Prize: £110,000
The Ultima (Festival Trophy) Handicap Chase is a Grade 3 National Hunt steeplechase handicap and is one of the big betting races on Day One of the meeting. Open to horses aged five years or older, the Festival Trophy Handicap Chase is run on the Old Courseover a distance of about three miles and one furlong (3 miles 1 furlong).
3.30 Unibet Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy (Grade 1)
Tuesday 15 March | Age: 4yo+ | Prize: £470,250
The Champion Hurdle is a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race and is the feature race on day one of the Cheltenham Festival, which is also known as Champion Day. Open to horses aged four years or older, the Champion Hurdle is run on the Old Course over a distance of about two miles and half a furlong (2 miles and 87 yards).
4.10 – Close Brothers Mares' Hurdle (Grade 1)
Tuesday 15 March | Age: 4yo+ | Prize: £120,000
The Mares’ Hurdle is a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race that is open to mares aged four years or older. First, run in 2008, it is one of the newer races at the Festival and is run on the New Course.
4:50 – Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3)
Tuesday 15 March | Age: 4yo+ | Prize: £80,000
The Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle is a Grade 3 National Hunt hurdle, open to horses aged four years only and run over a distance of about 2 miles and half a furlong.
5.30 – National Hunt Challenge Cup Amateur Jockeys' Novices' Chase (Grade 2)
Tuesday 15 March | Age: 5yo+ | Prize: £125,000
The National Hunt Challenge Cup Chase is the second-oldest race at the Cheltenham Festival but has actually been run the most number of times because the Grand Annual Handicap wasn’t run for a large period of the late 19th century.
1.20 The Ballymore Novices' Hurdle
Wednesday 17 March | Age: 4yo+ | Prize: £125,000
The Ballymore Novices Hurdle is a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race, open to horses four years and older who are novices (meaning they hadn’t won a race over hurdles prior to that season), the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle is run on the Old Course over a distance of about two miles and five furlongs (2 miles 5 furlongs and 26 yards).
1.55 The Brown Advisory Novices’ Steeple Chase (Grade 1)
Wednesday 17 March | Age: 5yo+ | Prize: £175,000
The Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase (formerly the RSA Chase) is a Grade 1 chase held over just over three miles (3 miles and 80 yards). The race is open to novice chasers aged five and up, and during the race 19 fences are jumped by those taking part.
2.50 The Coral Cup Hurdle (A Handicap Hurdle Race) (Grade 3)
Wednesday 17 March | Age: 4yo+ | Prize: £100,000
The Coral Cup is a Grade 3 handicap hurdle race, open to horses aged four and older. The race is run over a distance of just over two miles and five furlongs (2 miles, 5 furlongs and 26 yards).
3.30 The Betway Queen Mother Champion Steeple Chase (Grade 1)
Wednesday 17 March | Age: 5yo+ | Prize: £400,000
The Queen Mother Champion Chase is the feature race on Day Two of the Cheltenham Festival, and is a Grade 1 chase run officially over almost two miles (1 mile, 7 furlongs and 199 yards).
3.40 – The Glenfarclas Cross Country Steeple Chase
Wednesday 16 March | Age: 5yo+ | Prize: £65,000
The Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase in a National Hunt Chase, open to horses who are aged five years and older and run over a distance of about of three miles and six furlongs.
4:50 – The Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Handicap Steeple Chase Challenge Cup (Grade 3)
Wednesday 16 March | Age: 5yo+ | Prize: £110,000
The Grand Annual Chase is a Grade 3 race that traditionally took place on the last day of the Cheltenham Festival bu has now been moved to the Wednesday.
4.50 – The Weatherbys Champion Bumper (Grade 1)
Wednesday 17 March | Age: 4-6yo | Prize: £750,000
The Champion Bumper is a Grade 1 National Hunt Flat race which is run over a distance of about two miles and half a furlong (2 miles and 87 yards). Open to horses aged between four and six years old, the Champion Bumper was established in 1992 and is run on the Old Course at Cheltenham. It was initially called the Festival Bumper, and had various sponsors in the early years, including Tote and Guinness. However, Weatherbys have been sponsoring the race since 1997 and it is now widely known as the Weatherbys Champion Bumper.
