Thursday’s Racing Tips – Mount Tempest holds strong claims at Sandown

Rizzel landed another winner yesterday in the shape of Puddlesinthepark, who took his time to go past the runner-up in the run-in, but won quite cosily in the end under jockey Adam Wedge.

Mount Tempest 9/4 – Sandown 1.55

Only four runners contest in the 1.55 affair at Sandown, but nonetheless, it looks like a competitive little race on paper.

I was initially surprised to see Issam marked up as your favourite for this contest as I don't think the form of his most recent victory is all that strong. He got the better of Ben Paulings Pic Roc last time out at Exeter. Pic Roc was tipped on that day by Rizz and still to this day we've no idea how that horse did not win that contest. Pic Roc has been turned over at short odds in his last three outings, so I'm not sure if that form of that contest is worth raving about. The fourth-placed horse Alcedo from the Venetia Williams yard did come out and win next time around, however, that win came in Class 4 against horses rated significantly lower.

I've decided to take the market principle on with the Skelton trained Mount Tempest, who arrives here on the back of a comfortable victory at this very same course in December of last year. My selection is now on a career-high mark on the back of that recent win but I thought there was plenty to like about that particular performance and there could very well be more progression left in the tank. Mount Tempest looked in trouble when turning for home but he responded to Harry Skeltons urgings and jumped the final two fences well to win by just over 1L. My selection also carried top weight on that occasion, which is always a tough ask at Sandown due to the stiff finish. Harry Skelton is exactly the jockey I'd want on board in a four-runner field and he holds a strong chance of getting another win on the board for the team after enjoying a decent day yesterday when landing two winners.
