Thursday’s Racing Tips – Imitate can be worth the wait for punters at Chelmsford

Neither of Rizzel's selections performed well in their contests, and ultimately, it was a below-par day at the office.

Rizz is busy tonight, so I will have just a single selection for Thursday's racing. I'm sorry it's the last race of the evening, but fingers crossed, it's worth the wait.

Cairnzy's Tips

Imitate 3/1 – Chelmsford City 8.30

Harry Davies is a jockey that I'm massively fond of, and he did me a favor last weekend when winning on Make You Smile at Newbury at advised odds of 6/1. He's on board my selection tomorrow evening, riding for trainer Sir Michael Stoute.

Connections are probably a bit disappointed that Imitate still remains a maiden after five runs, given she's a nicely bred horse and related to some nice types such as Nostrum. Being from the Juddmonte family, you would expect much better and although still a maiden it's too early to give up hope yet.

Her performances to date are very up and down in regards to consistency but she did show a better attitude last week at Wolverhampton when going down by three quarters of a length to the winner. The race was eventually won by an 80/1 shot, a freak result that we see now and again but it was definitely a step back in the right direction. That particular race didn't fall into her favour, but she did make up some nice ground from an unfavoured position, staying on strongly to the line before running out time. That contest came over the extended mile and given how strongly she stayed on in that contest, this step up in trip to 1m2f looks the ideal move by connections.
