Yesterday’s Nap turned out to be rather disastrous. Does anyone know if Quaresome is still running? Anyway, that’s this game in a nutshell. You’re up, then you’re down. Let’s see what today brings.
Chelmsford - 19:15 |
Revolutionise |
14/1 |
Today’s Nap goes on the all-weather at Chelmsford, where I cannot help but be attracted to recent turf winner Revolutionise ahead of the seven-furlong affair taking place at 19:15.
Seemingly not fancied in the early betting, the eight-year-old has more to offer than early quotes of 14/1 would have us believe.
A winner over this trip on the turf at Brighton two runs back, Stuart Williams’ runner failed to get going at Kempton last time out, but he’s starting to look well handicapped based on much of his previous all-weather form, while he ought to be suited by the likely hot pace of this race, so don’t be surprised if he delivers an improved effort.
Six times a winner on the all-weather
The gelding hasn’t visited an all-weather winner’s enclosure since January, but he’s landed six prizes on artificial surfaces, while he’s run many other solid races, while he now sits 1 lb below his last winning mark.
Twice a winner at Chelmsford, he’s performed well in slightly stronger races than this over course and distance before, including when finishing a close-up third, from higher in the weights, back in April. A reproduction of that sort of form would surely see him get heavily involved.
If we look back to his second at Kempton back in April, we can see that this horse relishes aiming at a decent pace, which is exactly what he should get tonight. A good handful of these like to go forward, so we could see a battle on for the lead here, prompting a pace collapse, which will certainly aid the cause of the horse ridden by Marco Ghiani.
Of all the venues that trainer Williams sends horses to on a regular basis, Chelmsford provides the most winners, while Marco Ghiani, who won on this horse at Brighton recently and who has been on board for a couple of his better C&D efforts, is his go-to rider.
On paper, this is fairly competitive and several warrant respect, but for my money, Revolutionise ticks far too many boxes to be as big as 14/1. Such odds offer clear value for money as far as I’m concerned.
Based on a £10 level-stakes example, the Nap of the Day running profit is +£70.00 (since switching to being published here (10/09/2024) rather than on the ‘Nap of the Day' page).
