It was a decent Saturday and a bit of a return to form.
Crambo started the day off in poor fashion and isn't the same level of horse anymore. He was always in and out of form, but always produced at Ascot.
Hyland jumped like a lawnmower, which is frustrating given how close he got to winning. He is a well handicapped horse, and will become a cliff horse of mine. If he jumped the majority of his fences cleanly, he could be a very smart handicapper.
Alexei was too keen and didn't jump with fluency at enough of his obstacles to carry top weight to victory.
Supreme Malinas was a fortunate winner. She came from a mile back to win, but she was only the winner when it mattered. Either side of the line, she was behind the runner-up.
I Am The Moon 10/3 (1pt) – Fakenham 1.15
The owner of I Am The Moon has had two horses return to action for the Twiston-Davies yard in recent weeks, and both were winners. One of them won on their chasing debut.
Obviously, that doesn't mean a whole lot as this horse is completely different, but it shows that Nigel and Willy are getting their horses ready first time out.
I think this is a very winnable race for I Am The Moon, who is making her chasing debut.
She has some good pieces of form from her hurdling campaign last year, topped by a fourth in a Class 1 mares hurdle race at Newbury in March.
This isn't a track that the yard sends many runners to. When Nigel was the sole man on the licence, he had 25 runners at the track in the last five years.
Bolsover Bill 15/8 (2pt) – Fakenham 2.15
Harry Derham does very well with newcomers to his yard, and that was on show when he obtained Bolsover Bill last year. This horse managed to win on his first two starts, making use of a low handicap mark.
After winning off a handicap mark of 108 in easy fashion, his mark then skyrocketed, and he started to struggle to win.
He recently returned to the track from a 596-day absence, but over hurdles. He wasn't fancied in the market and ran like it was a fitness run.
Now running over fences again, and back on a handicap mark of 108, he is the one to beat as long as he is ready to fire.
