Not to be yesterday for Poke The Bear, who failed to get involved, failing also to build on the minor promise of his previous effort. Onwards and upwards.
Southwell - 16:50 |
Red Treasure |
7/2 |
On Sunday afternoon, we’re off to Southwell, where Red Treasure looks to have been found the right sort of opening by trainer Ed Dunlop, who having seen her go well several times, will be looking to win with this filly in the not so distant future.
The four-year-old, who has twice finished second over lesser trips in recent months, steps up in distance, now tackling one mile and three furlongs, which could be just what she needs.
In the early betting Emerald City is quite heavily fancied, though he wasn’t massively convincing when winning a worse race than this at Wolverhampton last time out and now has a hike in the weights to contend with. His short price has seemingly allowed Red Treasure to be available at generous odds.
Step up in distance could do the trick
One win from one visit to Southwell, today’s step up in trip really does look set to suit following that encouraging effort at Lingfield last time out, where over a one-mile-two-furlong trip, she did most of her best work late in the day to take second.
This is what you’d call an easier race too, so don’t be surprised if she’s right there at the death. After all, the winner of that Lingfield race has since gone on to score again, bolstering the form.
Sitting 10 lbs below her last winning mark, you’d also have to argue that the filly is well handicapped, so much so that there really should be a win in her form this sort of mark.
Also not to be ignored is the fact that Ed Dunlop and Danny Tudhope have a hugely eye-catching strike rate of 75% when teaming up in the last year.
All things considered, we’re talking about a runner with a seemingly sizable chance here, one that is greater than the current odds suggest. Take 7/2, take the value.
Based on a £10 level-stakes example, the Nap of the Day running profit is +£54 (since switching to being published here (10/09/2024) rather than on the ‘Nap of the Day' page).
