Heather Honey ensured it was a profitable day by winning in easy style for the in-form Sue Smith & Joel Parkinson stable.

I was getting worried by Bollin Neil, who is a multiple C&D winner on the flat at Catterick. He was jumping well, but when Heather Honey came up the straight, she stamped her authority and won nicely.

David's Well 11/4 (1pt) – Haydock 12.40

Taking on a previous selection is always risky. Normally, if I'm not backing the same horse, I'd leave the race alone.

However, on this occasion, I am taking a different approach and giving a chance to David's Well for the Chris Gordon stable.

Chris doesn't have a great record with the limited number of horses he has sent up to Haydock, but I think that David's Well has a good chance, as long as he is race fit.

This race looks like a race which is crying out for an unexposed chaser to improve and beat the exposed horses. There are not many to choose from, and David's Well is 2/2 over fences and has been impressive on his two starts.

His runs have been at a slightly lower level, and he hasn't been seen since winning at Chepstow last December. Both of those points give him something to prove, but he won easily last time out, and I can't believe that Chris Gordon would send him to Haydock if he needed the run.

Shomen Uchi 4/1 (1pt) – Haydock 3.35

Once again, I've been sucked into backing a Sam Thomas horse on a Saturday. Last week it didn't work out, but one of his runners did finish second for me. Despite it not working out last weekend, I do believe Shomen Uchi is a solid bet on Saturday, if his fitness is on point.

Given how well Sam Thomas has started the year, and he's had many winners from layoff, it gives me optimism that Shomen Uchi can be another.

He won on his chasing debut earlier in the year, and even though the winning margin wasn't anything spectacular, it was over a shorter-than-ideal trip.

He pricked his ears at the finish, showing he had plenty left to give. Now that he is up to a longer trip, this is where we'll see the real Shomen Uchi.

It's not concerning that Dylan Johnston has gone to Ascot, as he rides in a Grade 2. Charlie Deutsch is a great substitute, as he has won on this horse before, and he is one of the best jockeys over fences.

Bobbi With An I 4/1 (1pt) – Ascot 12.55

Two weeks ago, I put him Hard Dealt in a race at Exeter on her handicap debut. She didn't win and didn't run a great race at all. Back in fourth was Bobbi With An I, who ran well and stayed on at the finish over 2m 2f.

With the Tizzard yard still being in great form, and this mare running well on her seasonal return, I struggled to see many negatives at the bottom of the weights.

She looked in need of further last time out, so the step up in trip is well worth a try. Today's race is obviously a tougher assignment, but she is right at the bottom of the weights, and I think that she could be well-handicapped at this trip.

The form of the race has started to work out well, as the winners have won at Cheltenham last weekend in a competitive handicap.

Regarde 6/1 (1pt) – Ascot 2.05

From the horses in this race, I was only interested in backing Regarde. I think he is one of the only horses in this race who could still progress and surpass his current handicap mark.

There are obviously unexposed horses in this race, but they look like they are on tough handicap marks.

Regarde has always looked like a horse who needs a trip like this, ever since winning at Kempton a couple of years ago, when it looked very unlikely.

His stamina is strong, and he will be running on at the finish when the others are tired.

The form of his last run at the end of last season looks very good. Ask Brewster has since won again and is now rated 17lbs higher, so Regarde getting as close as he did is impressive.

His return to the track was a good effort at Cheltenham last month, which saw him finish third.
