There is no rest for the wicked and unfortunately for me, it continues into the weekend. I would have loved to get stuck into the racing after a torrid week away but I have a special birthday bash to attend this evening which means caution is advised as I have been very tight for time.

We had a good day yesterday, a winner and two 2nds ensured a profitable day which I was not expecting whatsoever. Glendown let us down for what would have been quite a nice payday but the 18/1 Snuggle finishing in the places was very nice to see. I was well chuffed Fantasy Master went and won too given the reasoning, best of luck with your bets on a busy Saturday.

Born to Rock 20/1 six places – 14.25 Doncaster

Once again this is my type of race but I won't even be assessing a single rival. The market leaders are well known and around 7/1, Shagraan for instance is a much better place prospect than I might provide throughout the entirety of next week.

I am sitting on this lightly raced horse for little reason, the price does appeal and the 2nd here last time is a little cause for optimism. A step up is definitely required but Brave Nation is a decent enough horse, carrying 10lbs more we got within half a length. Cover Point was behind in 3rd, who entered the race off a win.

The horse has been tried at a high level since debut, so it must be highly thought of. I respect the connections and will take a chance.

Pitney 7/1 four places – 16.40 Chester

On the River looked overpriced to me and I could easily be kicking myself come the end of the race, however, Pitney is the one I'll side with.

This horse came across my radar just yesterday when looking over the Lovely Billy Boy form, LBB was just overlooked but did finish 3rd.

Hugo Palmer is an eye-catcher at this track, his horse hasn't shown anything in his previous 3 runs but is lightly raced enough and is capable of bouncing back.

The best run from this horse since getting a rating came over today's C&D on soft/heavy in places. Today's apprentice was on board, he is 1lb below that and has a nice draw, all being well if he is fully firing then I am more than happy to chance him without looking at rivals.

Zealandia 16/1 four places – 14.40 Chester

There are a handful of obvious selections in this race, whether “last year's winner”, the 2nd, or the noteworthy Irish raiders from two powerful yards, even some outsiders make appeal on paper.

With heavy ground, a stayer is needed, I don't think that's Zealandia given he was more than 20 lengths behind Tashkhan in “this race” here last year but a few more pounds should help as will the drop back to 2 miles.

Winning at Goodwood over 1m6f on heavy doesn't scream stayer, the horse hadn't even gone beyond 1m4f until last year. He is 7lbs below his last win, it was on the AW but it is at least something to cling to. I am not going to go further to try to sell the horse, the fact is he is firmly up against it but given my circumstances, the bet type and the price – he is thrown in.

Storm Star 9/1 four places – 17.25 Doncaster

Hayley Turner has burned our fingers before when on a decent-looking thing for Andrew Balding. There looks to be some great racing but I don't feel comfortable selecting from them with such time restraints.

This Colt won on debut and has been consistent in his 4 races since. Tolstoy firmly beat it last time in a Racing League event, we are actually 4lbs worse off given the claimer, that horse is on the drift which may well mean this form line stinks.

We are in good hands however and it is early days. The form of his Yarmouth Racing League does make much more appeal and a chance is taken from a combination that is on their last chance.

WHAT IS A LUCKY 15 BET?

A Lucky 15 bet consists of 15 unique bets, covering every possible combination that comes from backing four selections. The 15 bets are broken down like this:

– 1 fourfold accumulator

– 4 trebles, with each treble omitting one of your selections

– 6 doubles, again covering every possible combination

– 4 singles

The attraction of a Lucky 15 is that it offers many more ways to win than a standard accumulator. A Lucky 15 uses both your acca and your singles as well as producing trebles and doubles that reward you for correctly calling 2/4 or 3/4 of your selections. To cover the 15 separate bets, a Lucky 15 uses your stake 15 times. If you were to place £1 on a Lucky 15, you would be staking £15 in total across the various bets.
