It was a disappointing Saturday, with most of my selections running below par. Git Maker wasn't a worthy price to advise as an each way- play, he did plug on to finish third in the Scottish Grand National which was as close as we came to a winning selection on Saturday.
I was extremely disappointed with Deeper Blue, his jumping was well off and that ultimately sealed his chances of ever getting involved. Zoum Zoum was my main fancy for Saturdays racing. The gap opened and he had every chance but just wasn't good enough on the day.
There is a lot of racing on Sunday for punters to get stuck into, however only one horse jumped out to me as a bet and it comes from the meeting at Musselburgh.
Toimy Son 5/1 – Musselburgh 6:15
Toimy Son was the only runner I could find on Sunday that looked a decent bet at an attractive enough price. I'm hoping he's worth the wait as he contests in one of the later races from the meeting at Musselburgh.
If this race plays out as I imagine It will, It should hopefully play right into Toimy Sons hands. On paper there is plenty of front-runners who should set a strong gallop up-front. I'm hoping the expected strong pace will have those in-front blow out before the business end, resulting in this race being set up for those travelling in-behind.
Toimy Son had a busy enough season last year and was pitched in some very competitive handicaps such as the Buckingham Palace and Victoria Cup. He was sent off at big prices in those handicaps and finished mid-pack on both occasions. Those races tend to be minefields more times than most, so I wouldn't let his finishing position put you off. His OR in those handicaps was in and around 102 and given he is set to run off 91 in this contest, that puts him on a competitive mark to get involved here.
My selection had a gelding operation during his 9 month break from racing and has since made a comeback run at Kempton on the AW. That run seen him finish an eye-catching third behind the Richard Hughes trained Zero Carbon. Toimy Son was sat well off the pace that day and came from near the back of the pack to finish strongly into third without really troubling the eventual winner. It was still a good comeback run and should of blown away any cobwebs following 9 months off the track.
