Racing Tips – There Is No Catching Catch Me Derry At Ayr

There wasn't much to say about Pen Portraits performance yesterday other than he struggled to get involved in what was a competitive minefield of a race.

Ayr, Newbury and Bath are the three courses I've concentrated on for Fridays racing and hopefully we can find a winner from somewhere.

Catch Him Derry 2/1 – Ayr 2:20

I think Catch Him Derry should take all the beating in this contest. He won at Southwell on handicap debut for Dan Skelton and followed that run up with a second place effort behind stable mate Gweenie May Boy.

The form of his second behind Gweenie May Boy is surely the strongest piece of form on offer. Gweenie May Boy went on to win his next two races, most notably at the Aintree festival last week when he bolted up to win by over 7 lengths beating his fancied stable mate West Balboa in the process. Given the form of Gweenie May Boys recent outings It Is easy to argue that Catch Him Derry is probably sitting pretty sweet off 5 lb higher.

I was originally tempted with the Tom Lacey trained Ten Lengths Tom, who could be a danger now upped in trip and open to improvement. All that aside I still feel he has a fair bit to find with my selection.

Lasting Love 4/1 – Newbury 2:42

There is plenty of new-comers in this race but the few towards the head of the market who have experience hold strong claims and the one that I've decided on was Andrew Baldings Lasting Love.

She caught the eye for me on debut at Doncaster over the 7f when staying on strongly to finish third behind Circe and Looking For Queen. It took a while for the penny to drop but she did make up some nice ground to finish as close as she did to the eventual winner. She takes a step up in trip from 7f to 1m,2f and that should hopefully see her improve further.

The form of that particular race isn't too bad either. Looking For Queen has since went on to run with credit in a class 2 when finishing third. Circe was pitched into class one company on her next start and although not landing a blow she finished 9l of the eventual winner Dance Sequence. Dance Sequence actually ran yesterday and was turned over at odds on to Richard Faheys Pretty Crystal. I wouldn't look to much into that loss for Dance Sequence, Pretty Crystal is a decent operator at that sort of level and that was Dance Sequence first outing since October last year so should come on for the run.

Mollys Mischief 13/8 – Bath 4:10

Tipping up in class 6's will always come with its risks and Mollys Mischief comes with hers in this contest having not been proven on turf.

With that being said, I still think she is the one to beat in this. She hosed up at Southwell last time out to win by six and half lengths, turning over the odds on and inform favourite Louisiana Bay whos form figures now read 2121 and he has been sent off favourite in all of last 4 starts.

That is by far the best piece of form on offer and I think the fact her win came over a consistent performer ( so be it at class 6 level ) I think reads well here as these class 6s are normally filled with inconsistent sorts.

She remains 7lb well in under a penalty and given most of the field have shown very little, If she is able to transfer that form to turf I think she should take all the beating in this.
