It has been a tough few days or so with the form dipping since after the Aintree festival. Form tends to come in patches in this game but sticking to the process is key and hopefully a return to form is only around the corner.
In regards to Tuesdays selections, Chief Little Rock didn't stay the trip as well as I thought. Ryan Moore went to the front and was very positive in his approach but realistically she's probably not as good as what people initially thought. My main selection was The Goat and I don't have much to say on the performance other than I'd be no where near the horse again from a punting perspective. You see this sort of thing happen in racing from time to time, a horse bolts up in a valuable contest and all of a sudden looks a complete lost cause on their next few outings.
There is some decent racing on tomorrow, in particular from the meeting at Perth. There is a class one in the 3:25 that I was tempted by. You can argue all 5 of them have claims in winning, so I opted to avoid it.
Sunday Soldier 9/4 – 16:25 Perth
I tipped Sunday Solider up on here not too long ago when she completed the five-timer at Musselburgh. I mentioned In my post write up that I'll be backing her again and I will continue to do so until the handicapper gets a grasp on her.
She comes here in the form of her life having made endless progress this season, improving more and more with each run. She registered the five-timer when scoring at Musselburgh three weeks ago. She is a horse who travels beautifully into her races and last time out was no different. She made smooth headway from the rear and quickened nicely to lead before the last before holding out to win by half a length from Similar Story.
She has been raised a further 6 lb which in total makes it a total rise of 42lb. Of course the handicapper always catches up at some point but given the form she is in, I think she can handle a further rise and make it six wins on the trot.
Rattling Road 9/2 – 1:50 Perth
Backing against an odds on Willie Mullins runner probably isn't the smartest of moves but at the prices Rattling Road looks worth a small bet to upset the short priced favourite.
My selection has shown improvement in each of his three starts over hurdles. He steps up in trip to 2m4f for this contest and remains unexposed over this sort of distance over obstacles. The step up in trip isn't a concern as Rattling Road has won a point over 3m earlier on in his career.
His previous run at Wetherby saw him finish third, 3 lengths behind the eventual winner. There was plenty of encouragement to take from his previous run. My selection was leading the race as they approached three out and held every chance at that stage. However two poor jumps in the business end quickly put him on the back foot and he was unable to peg back the winner. He did stay on towards the line which suggests this step up in trip is well within his reach.
To quickly touch on the Willie Mullins runner. Dr Eggman has proved pretty expensive to follow over hurdles having been turned over the last twice at 2/5 and 4/9. His jumping is sketchy and I wasn't impressed at all with his previous run at Naas. He did travel well into contention two from home but found little of the bridle once he jumped the second last, and he quickly faded to finish fourth.
Special Dragon 11/4 – 4:05 Ludlow
Special Dragon didn't show a whole lot in her three starts in novice company but her recent run at Market Rasen following a wind surgery was very much a step in the right direction.
Special Dragon came into traffic problems during the run at Market Rasen, being denied a clear run on multiple occasions. She had to switch a couple of times to get a clear run, losing momentum in the process which is never ideal. Although she probably would never of got to the eventual winner King Of The Road, she did make up some nice ground when she eventually got into the clear. The form of that recent outing received a boost as the winner went on to win again of 7lb higher.
The handicapper hit my selection with a 4lb rise for that effort behind King Of The Road but Special Dragon looks like a horse who is ready to pounce and a win is surely imminent of her current mark.
I would imagine that the bookies will be praying for the Mullins hotpot treble to fall?
kingsale 11.55 France well done all winners yesterday
That’s the bookies day paid for as trebles and upwards bite the dust in the first race.
Go on chez 5-10 Ludlow 5-2.
Consistent sort who hadn’t run since last September but now had decent ground.
Got bottom wright with the 7lb claimer.
Dropped into hunter chases in a bid to free him of his seconditis last year.
