Racing tips: Loup De Maulde can take advantage of a lower chase rating at Huntingdon

My Silver Lining was very brave in the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter. She jumped brilliantly all race but was outstayed in the final furlong by the Mullins top weight and Nigel Twiston-Davies' Beauport. It was a fine effort from the mare, and she'll come again in easier races. Money returned from the place.

Chepstow 3:35 – Thor De Cerisy 9/4 (1pt, Bet365)

It was painful to not see that Thor De Cerisy was running at Chepsotw 22 days ago as he won at odds of 9/2. It was more of the fact that he would've won when being a tip from the Uttoxeter race the time before when put up at 11/1 and it was just a matter of jumping the final fence, but he fell. Despite not being on him last time out, it was a very easy success for him, and though today's race is tougher against better horses off an 8lb higher mark, I think he can handle that.

The form from his last three runs has been very good. The run at Uttoxeter in December when he finished last of five has worked out very well, and the way he was ridden that day always suggested he was on a good mark and he was in great form. The winner has since won again and the third has won twice, as well as the fourth being a runner-up. The time after at the same track over the same distance he was about to hack up on the bridle, but Richie McLernon didn't decide to pop him over the last and the horse fell when the risk wasn't needed, but as I mentioned already, he won with ease at Chepstow and the way he motored clear after the last was very visually impressive and it was like he was running on good ground when in reality it was heavy.

With the horse being in such fine form I think he can overcome a big hike in the weights in this better quality race. James Bowen keeps the ride, which is a bonus as Richie has ridden some shockers on him this year.

Huntingdon 3:17 – Loup De Maulde 7/4 (1pt, Bet365/WHill)

I'll take a chance on Loup De Maulde who reverts to fences after being over hurdles since moving to Robbie Llewellyn's yard in October 2022.

On his hurdles form, this looks like a nice opportunity for Loup De Maulde to break his duck over fences on his seventh attempt. He has shown a good level of form over hurdles for his current yard, including a 2nd in a Pertemps Qualifier in Jan and more recently a good 4th/13 in a Class 3 contest at Ascot. Those runs came off marks of 123 and 125, but he is running off a mark of 116 today, so based on that, he should be in with a proper chance against lesser opposition today.

He wasn't always fluent over fences when trained by Christian Williams, but those runs came over much shorter than his ideal trip. He is a decent stayer and his wins have come over 3m 2f, with two wins coming at today's track, so his runs over 2m and slightly further was never going to suit. He is running over 2m 7f today, which will be more of a help to him, and the soft ground should be what he wants too. Robbie Llewellyn clearly thinks he can exploit his current mark and I think his jumping will be much more assured from the move to this stable, who is having a great season and it's noticeable that they are going over fences at this track which he seems to enjoy running at.
