Tomorrow marks the start of the flat season kicking into gear and we have some cracking races to get dug into!

Tropez Power 12/1 EW – Doncaster 2:25

A wide-open and competitive contest over the straight mile and its a bit of a minefield but my eyes were drawn to Tropez Power for trainer John Quinn.

This one's career has turned a corner since switching to the Quinn yard from Richard Hannon. He switched yards back in December last year and has since ran some cracking races on the all-weather with form figures of 21231.

Although not winning on the day I was really taken by his last run at Newcastle a few weeks ago. I thought he travelled beautifully and picked up well but just couldn't get the better of the eventual winner Point Lynas.

Further to that previous run at Newcastle, I think the particular form of that 2nd place effort is quite strong. Point Lynas had some nice form last year on the flat. A winner of a Group 3 contest at Redcar and also finishing 2nd in class 2 at York.

Tropez's Power record on the turf isn't great ( 1-11 ) which is a bit of a worry but I still think he's nicely treated and if he's able to transfer that AW form to the turf this season he has every chance at nice odds.

Tyrrhenian Sea ( Betting without Secret State ) 4/1 – 2:05 Kempton

I'm going to use the betting without the favourite market on this race. Mainly because I hate punting against short-priced Appleby runners in these types of races but I also think 4/1 is an attractive price to get involved in.

I was surprised to see my selection priced up at 6s to win as I thought he brought the most recent and strongest form to the table going into the race.

Varians grey finished runner up to Lord North at Lingfield back in February of this year in a class 1 group 3 contest over 1m2. I thought that was a cracking effort and given lord north has since went on to win again in a group 1 at Meydan under frankie that surely boosts the form further.

Secret State is too short in my opinion. He takes quite a drop in trip for this tomorrow having been running most recent over 1m6. He also steps onto the AW having raced on turf on previous runs.

Phantom flight is another smart operator who should be involved at the finish if putting a slightly below par run behind him having previously been on good form last year over this distance.

Good luck!
