It was a tough day at Punchestown on Tuesday and I'm disappointed to not at least come away with one winning selection.
Dinoblue was my main selection on Tuesday and she was probably the most disappointing of the three selections I put up. I was surprised to see her off the bridle that far from home as I expected her to travel much better throughout the race. I wasn't that happy with her position throughout, the run in at Punchestown is quite short and I think you'd rather be more up with the pace than off it when heading for home.
King Of Kingsfield missed out on the places by one which was disappointing as he was tipped up at 33/1. Montregard was advised at 7/1 EW and placed so there was some small profit made there, but nothing worth shouting about.
Punchestown and Ascot are the two main focus points for Wednesday's racing.
Tanager 11/2 – 1:10 Ascot
Small stakes advised on this particular selection as most of the field have only had the single run too date.
There are some decent yards with runners in this race and the current market favourite Rock Hunter has to be respected given his latest success over in France on testing ground.
I thought at the prices Tanager was worth a small bet in this contest. He made his debut at Chelmsford last month and I was really impressed with how he went about his business. I mentioned in previous articles that when a horse misses the break over 5f that they tend to not get involved but that wasn't the case for Tanager.
He fluffed the start and had to sit last of the field for most of the race whilst showing clear signs of inexperience throughout. It wasn't until he hit the 2 pole that he started to learn on the job, he breezed past horses once the gap opened and ended up winning by just under 2 lengths.
Eve Johnson has her 2 year olds in great form this year with 4 winners from 9 runs and It's also worth noting that she won this race back in 2021 with Chipotle who went on to land a valuable prize at Royal Ascot.
El Boden 11/2 – 2:50 Ascot
This race is as competitive as they come and not one I'd normally get involved in but I couldn't ignore El Boden at the prices. The opening price of 10s is long gone however 11/2 is still a nice price and for that reason I'm more than happy to throw a few quid at him In this contest.
His current form to date was the thing that caught my eye, you can easily argue he has achieved more after only three runs than any of his rivals did at that point in their racing career.
He showed clear promise as a juvenile when stepping forward from his debut run to win in impressive fashion at Lingfield over 6f. He then made his reappearance run 10 days ago when connections opted to throw him into the deep-end at Newbury to contest in the Greenham. He wasn't fancied in the market that day when sent off at 28/1 but ran a blinder from a poor draw to deat-heat for second with Zoum Zoum who I actually tipped up to win on the day.
El Boden has been dropped back to 6f for this race which I think is the right move by connections and Tom Marquand who rode him last time out retains the ride for trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam.
Mistergif 15/8 – 3:40 Punchestown
I'm not surprised to see Mistergif marked up as favourite for this race however I am surprised he's not shorter than his current price of 15/8. There is definitely value in him at 15/8 and If he runs to form he's surely the horse they all have to beat in this contest.
Willie Mullins' five-year-old was originally recruited from France last year and has since run three times for trainer Willie Mullins. He romped home by 18 lengths at Limerick in a maiden on his first start for Willie Mullins. He was then sent to the supreme at Cheltenham where he finished a creditable fifth before going one place better in the Top Novices' Hurdle at Aintree a month later.
He was well-beaten in both of them Grade 1s, but his form is clear of everything else and given this is a pretty ordinary race he should take all the beating.
Galopin Des Champs 1st Fasterslow 2nd Corach Rambler 3rd Tricast 18/1 – 5:25 Punchestown
Forecast and Tricast bets are not my sort of thing but given Galopin Des Champs is as short as 8/11 to win the race I thought I'd have a small play on the straight tri-cast.
I think the market at present is pretty much bang on money for what you'd expect. If GDC brings his A game he should win this race with no issues. His stamina is superior to anything else in the field and I can't see anything troubling him on current form.
Fastorslow beat Galopin Des Champs in this race last year and as much as I don't expect the same this year he still looks the best of the remainder.
Corach Rambler arrives here fresh after unseating in the early stages of the Grand National. I can see him staying on into the places, with his stamina already a proven asset for Lucinda Russells' superstar.

Punchestown - 5:25 pm
2.30 Walk Away Harry 3/1
The ground is key here. The last time WAH ran on gd/sft he won and had Dr Eggman whose rated 123 1 1/2L back in third.
WAH comes in here off bottom weight off 113 so is surely thrown in.
3.05 Answer To Kayf 9/4
Is clear at the weights and I’m not sure why he’s nt clear fav as he’s already beaten Blizzard of Oz by 3 1/2L and is a pound better off with him. He also ran with credit in the Martin Pipe finishing 4th.
3.40 Mister Gif 15/8
Crainzy has pretty much summed up his chances so won’t waffle on
4.15 Better Days Ahead 3/1 NAP
Actually backed him early on Tuesday at 6/1 but he was 8s at one point.
Good winner of the Martin Pipe and this step up to 3m should bring out more improvement.
4.50 William Munny 4/1
I don’t think the Bumper standard is great this year and talk was that the 2 best Bumper horses didn’t travel to Cheltenham. Jeroboam Machin being one and William Munny the other.
Time will tell but I’m willing to take on the Cheltenham form with WM.
5.25
I hope Galopin Des Champs wins but I think he could be vulnerable to Fastorslow on this faster surface. No bet
6.00 Let’s Go Champ 9/2
Again is so much better on a sounder surface

Win this last year and a 6 time course winner.
money has come for dolayali unproven at this level but has the graffard/soumillon combo involved and is the main reason tribalist isn’t 4-9 or similar
Tribalist won, did touch 11-10 for anyone else that was on 🇫🇷 so technically wasn’t a breach of the odds on rule 🤣🤣
Bad day yesterday at Punchestown hopefully better luck today.
