I've no real excuse for Pastrol Way's performance on Monday. It was disappointing to see him fade so tamely as he was quick out of the gates and right up with the pace during the start of the race.

The money poured in for him during the day and he was backed into favourite before the off. It just goes to show you that the market means nothing in this game.

We have some cracking racing to look forward to from Punchestown over the next few days. The racing at Punchestown will be my main focus, but if something catches my eye from any other meetings, I'll be sure to let you all know.

Montregard 7/1 EW – Punchestown 3:05

Most online bookmakers are offering six places in this race and for that reason I've chosen to take this selection each-way.

I'll be honest; tipping up horses in these massive competitive handicaps isn't my cup of tea, but Montregard struck out to me as a decent play in this race, and I couldn't resist mentioning him on the thread.

Inexperience was Montregard's downfall when he returned a beaten favourite on his reappearance and handicap debut at Newcastle. I thought he travelled well throughout the contest but made quite a few sketchy jumps throughout the race, and more so as the pace started as they went for home.

Connections opted to apply first-time cheek-pieces next time out, and they seemed to work a treat as he went on to win at Wetherby after splitting rivals and staying on in the final furlong.

Montregard will probably need to improve on his jumping to win this race as he still looks very novicey in that department.

Dinoblue 7/4 – Punchestown 5:25

Dinoblue looks the solid play in this race as she drops back down to her more favourable trip of 2m.

She brings some nice form to this contest after only recently being denied by 3/4 of a length to Limerick Lace at the Cheltenham Festival in the Mares' Chase. That was Dinoblue's first attempt over 2m4f, and It was a cracking effort in the grand scheme to only go down by that short a margin against a decent sort in Limerick Lace

She has gotten the better of a couple of these rivals previously, with Gentleman De Mee and Captain Guiness being the two horses in question. She should have the measure of both them rivals again, having beaten Gentleman De Mee by 7 and 1/2 lengths at Leopardstown over the Christmas period, while Captain Guinness was pulled up in the same race.

King Of Kingsfield 33/1 EW – Punchestown 3:40

I thought King Of Kingsfield was over-priced at 33/1 in this contest and although up against some really nice types in Slade Steel and Mystical Power, he could represent some each-way value in what looks a very competitive race.

My selection recently ran in the County Hurdle at Cheltenham, he was well backed in the market when going off at 4/1. He failed to fire that day and ended up finishing 14th of 17 runners.

The heavy ground conditions at Cheltenham clearly didn't suit King Of Kingsfield that day, and I'm more than happy to forgive the run. My selection is back in a Grade 1 novice today, and he ran second in this sort of company at Fairyhouse back in December.

The current favourite Slade Steel has actually ran against King Of Kingsfield before. The pair met in a maiden hurdle at Naas last year, where King Of Kingsfield was sent off a short 8-11 favourite to win the race. He found Slade Steel too good that day on soft ground and went down by five and a half lengths in the end.

King Of Kingsfield seems to be a horse who prefers quicker ground, he recently won a 23 runner maiden hurdle at Leopardstown over the Christmas period on yeilding ground. The current forecast ground for tomorrow is yielding, good in places, so there is every chance he could outrun his 33/1 odds with conditions in his favour.

Some cracking line ups tomorrow and throughout the week. Really looking forward to it and we also finally get some proper spring ground which could turn the Cheltenham form on its head.
Good to see plenty of British interest but not surprising with excellent prize money on offer. They are usually given a chance by the handicapper and win their fair share of races.

The first race is restricted to horses that have only won once and are trained in kildare. There are a few races like this throughout the week and are best left alone.

    3.05 Paddy’s Milestone 11/1 ew 6 places (best priced 9s now)
Plenty of money has come for this horse and not surprising as he was an unlucky loser lto and has been left on the same mark here.

    3.40 Tullyhill 7/1 ew / Asian Master 18/1 ew

I think Slade Steel won the Supreme as he out stayed Mystical Power on the heavy ground and I think MP can reverse the form. But he’s also had a busy campaign recently having run at Cheltenham, Aintree and now Punchestown and its never easy to run in all 3 festivals and so I think both are worth taking on with both Tullyhill who will be much better suited to this track and also Asian Master who was only 3/4L behind Firefox in the Supreme having been hampered 2 out and also ran wide throughout the race to seek better ground. I think he’s just too big a price here.

    4.15 Daddy Long Legs 4/1

Favs have a poor record in this race but surely DLL is far better than a 135 horse and will take all the beating. He beat Cleatus Poolaw (rated 139) by 13L and with the ground now in his favour should be hard to beat.
I will though have a saver on Cossack Chach 16/1 ew 6 places who as a 4yr old is running off a featherweight.

4.50 is the first of many bumpers that will take place but with many having their first runs its best left alone.

    5.25 Dinoblue 7/4

Back at 2m should should be the one they all have to beat. I think Banbridge is better over further even on this ground although does wear headgear for the first time to hopefully sharpen him up and a little over 2m stretches Captain Guiness stamina .

    6.00 Spillanes Tower 5/2

Love This horse. Has had a busy campaign and steps up to 3m for the first time. Trainer also said after his win lto that that was it for the season so this looks like a bit of an after thought.
But I’ve been waiting all season for him to make the step up to this distance and he Owes me nothing so I won’t desert him now even though he faces a tough task in trying to beat Monty’s Star who ran a cracker at the festival.

    6.35
Another bumper but one horse could be interesting. LAUROS LEGEND 66/1 ew 4 places. Interesting because his Sire has sired 2 winners from 2 runners at punchestown. Worth a quid ew.

Daddy Long Legs looks a cracking bet at 4/1 DC.
I’ve used my “Epic boost” with William Hill for double the odds (£5 max bet) so 8/1 would be just loverly!
Was going to use it on Dinoblue but that’s no fun 😉

      GL all today 🍀 🇮🇪 🐎

I’m with Cairnzy with Dinoblue, it’s just a double for me with Slade Steel for day 1, returning around 4/1 at current odds.

With the forecast rain I struggle to see Mystical Power winning. He seems to struggle to get home over 2m and with Tullyhill likely to go a good gallop from the front, it should be set up for SS.

Aaaah it’s the Mullins benefit meeting this week.
Dampens the enthusiasm having so many from the same stable competing against each other, open to collusion and another obstacle in the way of the punter.

Might look at ew on some of his 3rd/4th in his pecking order to find any value

    5-25 punchestown

Captain Guinness 2-1 top 2 finish (single)
Gentleman de mee 13-2 ew 3 places.

1st and 2nd in the champion chase take in Dino blue 2nd in a mares race at Cheltenham.
Both been beaten 6 and 7 lengths by Dino recently granted so Dino should be winning this.

Guinness as we all know was a lucky winner with the favourite falling in the champion but is largely consistent and could chase home Dino if that performs as expected today.
Townsend also chooses gentleman de mee which raises suspicions ???

      4-15 punchestown
      Effernock fizz
      18-1 bet365 ew extra.

Stick a pin in race like many here, this has done me a few turns in his long career on flat and jumps and runs off 10-6 with the claimer and is a tough old dog on his day.

Won a listed handicap at 33-1 only last month beating a few of these on heavy going

      It’s 18-1 ew extra 10 places…….

Elvis Townsend doesnt get 1st pick of the green & gold that’s Mark Walsh that’s the arrangement JP has with Wullie.
Townsend does get 1st pick of the double green Munir & Souede horses.

    Mystical power 15-8 NAP BET365 🏇
Ile atlantique 9-1 ew extra 5 places.

If mystical has enough left in the tank he should win with no Cheltenham hill here to stop him

Ile atlantique has never finished out of the top 2 over 2 miles for Mullins.
Tried over 2 mile 4+ this season and hasn’t really worked.

JP has some team of 3m chasers.
Spillanes Tower becomes the latest of very high class horses he owns.
It will be very interesting to see how they are campaigned next season
