Unfortunately, both selections on Thursday were duds. I called the Irish race completely wrong, and the 3yo's in that race put the middle finger up at me as I said they weren't that good. I think Pretreville is a horse to keep on side of in a race which is for 4yo's+ as the weight he had to give away to the younger horses made it a tough ask, and I think that was one of the deciding factors.

This does look like a tricky race on paper with some horses arriving to this in good form. The one I like has been backed in, which is a shame as I was hoping for bigger odds, but I'll still be backing him. HELM ROCK will find this race easier than his latest run at York where he ran a big race to finish 5th considering where he came from. He was towards the rear in that race and didn't have the smoothest of passages and was running on strongly so it was a good run to finish where he did.
The ground is described as Good To Soft the night before and some forecasts are suggesting a little more rain could come, which is perfectly fine for Helm Rock who has run well on soft ground many times before, so the more, the better, but if it remains GTS then that's fine.
There are some improving horses in this race, Macs Dilemma being the obvious one, but I just think the Class horse in the race is Helm Rock which is weird to say in a Class 5, but he has contested in harder races than this over the last year, so will enjoy this weaker race.

FRIDAY… Winning machine Pretty Rachel runs tonight. Put her up a few times but missed last win which was impressive.

Also, Isthebaropen 20.53 Aintree. I have won a bit on this horse in the past and like it a lot, but it’s the first run back today after a 7 month layoff and it’s the outsider of only 3 runners , so might be best just watched today.

He was off after a win for nearly 2 years but kept him in my tracker as my notes seemed like I was pretty impressed at the time. Haven’t been let down on his 2 returns and with a lot of inconsistent more exposed horses here and this being only his 4th start he can make it 4/4!
