Rizz managed to land a nice winner in the shape of Skyjack Hijack, who proved to be decent value at 3/1 as he was backed into a strong 6/4 favourite.

Ahoy Senor was my sole selection yesterday and despite finishing third it was an encouraging return to action. Although capable over that shorter distance, I think yesterday's performance proved he is more suited by further as powered home strongly towards the end but couldn't peg back the front two.

Rizz is having a day away from racing and will return tomorrow for Tuesday's selections.

Buddy One 7/4 – Wexford 3.20

For my sole selection on Monday I've decided to take a chance on the P J Gilligan trained Buddy One.

It's hard to see past the three that head the market in this contest and I think a race-fit Corbetts Cross would be hard to beat, even carryinig top weight which he has to do this time around. Of the three that head the market, my selection Buddy One is the only one who has a recent run under the belt, which came only a few weeks ago when winning at Galway by just over 7L. My selection didn't beat much at Galway in terms of quality, however, it was a pleasing return to action and with a recent run under the belt, he could be hard to beat with race fitness on his side.

Although current ratings suggest Buddy One has a bit to find with Corbetts Cross, I wouldn't look past the potential that Buddy One has, given his recent form from last season. My selection ran a blinder in the stayers hurdle at Cheltenham, outrunning his odds of 40/1 to finish a creditable fourth. Buddy One followed up with another encouraging effort at Aintree in the Liverpool hurdle, finishing second behind Strong Leader but finishing ahead of some nice types in the process such as Monkfish, Hewick and most notably Flooring Porter who has since boosted the form when recently winning the Guinness Kerry National Handicap Chase (Grade 3) last month.

Corbetts Cross was disappointing last season when returning from a break, and I'll take the risk this time that he may need the run before contesting in more valuable races this term.

    Mississippi river 1-30 Galway 15-8.

This came 6 length 2nd to stablemate twain just over a week ago at leopardstown.
Twain was then sent to France yesterday to run in a group race and won with such ease he is now 5th in the betting for next year’s Epson 2000 Guinness.
So maybe the 6 length loss to twain doesn’t look too bad now.
Claimers 5 pound will help also

Be an angel 1-35 Leicester 15-8.

Ran a neck 2nd on debut in today’s heavy ground here at Leicester.
Normal improvement should see this going close

For those that care, I’ve no idea why selection isn’t showing at bottom of article and it’s too late to go hunting for an explanation…

Well done to those who managed to find a few winners yesterday.

Similar to the flat racing at the start of the season, a lot of horses will need a run or so before hitting top flight so we could see some whacky results here and there… not that we don’t see them every day anyway🤣 but you get the jist!

    Goodbye and good night 🫡
