Cairnzy has offered to step in and do a Lucky 15 bet for Monday's card.
Majestic Dane 10/3 – Ripon 3.40
This is a pretty open contest, but the horse that stood out to me was the twice-raced Majestic Dane.
My selection is trained by Karl Burke and will be ridden by Clifford Lee.
Majestic Dane is very much the least exposed runner in this field and, in receipt of some weight from his rivals, he could prove a cut above this lot if taking another step forward from his recent second at Newcastle.
Majestic Dane won on debut, and followed up with a good second last time out at Newcastle in a Class 4 contest. My slight worry is the fact that the horse hasn’t been seen since February, so he may have had some issues. I do know he’s been gelded since finishing second last time out. Fingers crossed he’s ready to go first time out after a break, as he looks more than capable of surpassing his current mark.
Time Thief 2/1 – Ripon 2.30
The current market would tell you this is a trappy race, but I wasn’t convinced after glancing through the field.
Peace Bell has a fourth-placed effort in a Group 3 to her name, but she was completely out of sorts on her next outing when turned over at short odds in a Class 3. Feelin Free, I thought, had a bit to prove, while Masterly hadn’t been seen since 2023.
That left me with my selection Time Thief and Why Not Me. At the prices, I like Why Not Me, and the booking of Oisin Murphy suggests they are expecting a decent run, but I just thought Time Thief had shown enough on debut to put this lot to the sword.
My selection got the job done on debut at Yarmouth during the start of this month. He did show signs of greenness in the final stages ( hung left ), but he should come on for the experience this time around. He’s a nicely bred horse, and 2/1 seems a fair enough price against this field.
Rogue Jewel 4/1 – Ripon 3.05
Rizz and I aren't the biggest fans of Danny Tudhope, but I’m finding myself backing a horse he’s on board on Monday.
I also find myself backing against the current market favourite Not My Type, who was a horse I tipped up on the main thread when covering Rizz two weeks ago.
I really like the pair of these horses, and I’ll be surprised if the winner of the race isn’t one of them, but I just thought Rogue Jewel had shown that little bit more and is potentially a nicer type.
My selection backed up her debut success at York with a nice win in the Class 2 Hornblower at this very same course two weeks ago. The form of that contest looks stronger than that of Not My Type, and for that reason I opted to take on the market leader.
Furthermore, Ed Bethell has his string in good nick at present, and Rogue Jewel looks like another decent horse he has at his disposal.
Dapper Guest 4/1 – Epsom 5.15
A small 6 runner field brings the Epsom card to a close, and it looks a tight little race on paper.
Current market favourite French Affair has done extremely well since joining Jennie Candlish from Richard Hannon, and arrives here in search of a hat trick.
The horse that caught my eye, however, was Dapper Guest, who hails from the George Margarson yard. My selection has slowly slid down the weights this term and appears to be on a decent mark. He returned to form at Brighton last time out when finishing just over a length back in third place. My selection is more than capable of winning a race of this nature, and Saffie Osbourne takes over in the saddle from David Egan, which I thought was an added positive.
