A Father-Son Victory Etched in Emotion

The story of the 2025 Grand National belongs to the Mullins family and owner Stewart Andrew. The eight-year-old Nick Rockett, trained by Irishman Willie Mullins and ridden by his son Patrick Mullins, surged to victory in the final stages of the world’s most iconic steeplechase, holding off last year’s winner I Am Maximus.

What makes this win all the more special is the emotional backstory. The horse was brought to the Mullins’ yard on the wishes of Sandie Andrew, Stewart’s wife, who sadly passed away but asked her husband to place the horse in the care of the champion trainer – a decision that paid off today in spectacular fashion.

It was also an incredible day for Willie Mullins, who completed a remarkable 1-2-3 with Nick Rockett, I Am Maximus and Grangeclare West. A clean sweep for Ireland and a result that further solidifies Mullins’ chances of claiming the title of Champion Trainer this season.
