I was quietly confident heading into Thursday's racing at Wincanton, but to walk away with profit from one winner is definitely better than nothing.
I thought that both of the horses had cracking chances going into their races.
Star Of Affirmity didn't jump well enough early into his race to give himself a chance when trying to close the race out. His jumping got better as the race progressed, but the early rubbish jumps took out a little too much energy.
Tapley, on the other hand, put in a very solid round of jumping, and the inexperienced seven-pound claimer in the saddle gave him a belting ride. Considering there was a fair amount of money, she didn't look bothered by the pressure and rode a great ride.
Heather Honey 3/1 (1pt) – Catterick 1.15
This is being written for the second time, as the thread was about to be published, but it randomly deleted itself.
Heather Honey should enjoy the drop in grade for today's race. The form of her last two runs in tougher races should set it up perfectly for her to get another win on the board.
Before she left for a summer break, she won three hurdle races on the bounce at a similar trip and on the same type of ground that she is facing today.
She returned with a solid effort at Southwell before going to Aintree in a Class 3 race, which has been boosted.
The fourth-placed horse has since won a Class 2 at Cheltenham on the previous weekend. The third-placed horse was also placed in a Class 2 at Newbury earlier in the month. There is a lot to like about her chances of winning, and I was surprised to see that she wasn't the clear favourite at the top of the market.
Back it with Tote (no fixed odds)Yorgunnabeplucky 5/1 (1pt) – Chepstow 2.44
I can see why the market is congested, but I cannot give a chance to many in this race. I thought the horses on either side of the weights were the ones to focus on, but Yorgunnabeplucky edged out the Skelton horse.
There is no guarantee that my fancy is going to stay the trip, but I thought he shaped nicely enough at Stratford on his seasonal return over 2m 6f. He was held up and stayed on at the finish.
It turns out that the winner of the Stratford race was miles ahead of the handicapper, so Yorgunnabeplucky had a tough task giving away 10lbs to that horse. He went on to win another race off a higher mark and will likely win more races in the future.
Evan Williams is brilliant at getting his novice chasers running off low handicap marks, so it wasn't a surprise when this horse won on his chasing debut the time before last.
