Almarada Prince let us down again, punished by the laziness of the selection, I almost whacked both of the trainers in together so it was typical to see the other went in, John L Sullivan crept into the places but we were let down by a nose when 12/1 Lenny's Spirit less us down which would have been very handy considering Howth managed to place, a swing of 4.5pts.

Attacanter's Tips

Mostar Dreams 12/1 five places – 16.55 York

There are some respected runners leading the marker in this but I was still halved tempted to land on Michael Dod's Challet who could well outrun his odds but without dwelling, I am going to stick with my initial selection in Mostar Dreams, a horse who I have chanced before when only managing to place at a short enough price.

The Ian Jardine trained three-year-old arrives here nine runs deep into her debut season. She's only managed to win once so far but has been generally consistent although today's rivals could be too much for her this early. She should be comfortable on the expected heavy going whilst Shay Farmer's 7lb claim in my eyes entitles her to be in the picture.

Today's 7 furlong trip should hopefully be in her favour too, she's been tried over 6f the last four times, although the last two were at Hamilton which is a stiff track. Her win was just shy of 7f whilst her sire Saxon Warrior never tried less than a mile. Running effectively off 67 puts her 2lbs below a Class 5 success from June but 8lbs better off than the last twice when a well beat third both times.

Navagio 9/1 five places – 13.30 York

James Horton hasn't held a license for relatively that long but he has proven himself worthy of note on a few occasions already. He is in no great form but Navagio is a horse I chanced when seen recently in a Class 2 in soft conditions at Haydock. He cruised into the race travelling best to the eye taking the lead before 2 out, he was well beat in the end but I can see him coming on for the run with potentially a more waited ride.

Hailing from Ireland, he is yet to win on these shores since starting out back in March, his first run for this trainer was his best, an impressive 3rd of 20 at Doncaster over a mile rated 96. His 3rd last time was a return to form and although Richard Kingscote is at Newmarket today, the jockey booking is fine enough for me.

He's lightly raced enough and lurking on a workable enough mark now 8lbs below the Doncaster run, conditions won't be an issue and he should be capable of travelling smoothly into the race once again, although he'll of course need to have more up his sleeve today.

Aberama Gold 7/1 five places – 15.45 York

Aberama Gold represents a trainer who is synonymous with these sorts of races and it is because of that I was almost tempted to look for something else or stick with my initial pick Enchanting who comes here with with equal places claims but perhaps a slight better chance of winning.

I am going to side with the selection with Danny Tudhope taking back over in hope he has enough stones in a row to be able to feature. The horse is now 11lbs lower than his last win, which strangely enough was over this trip this time last year at Doncaster in a Class 2. Since then the horse has been tried almost exclusively over 6f, which is a concern but the ground should be in his favour and his staying power can only help in the conditions.

Last time at Haydock he was 3rd over 5f which is hopefully a little lung burner for this race, he was beaten by two nice types and can hopefully still show his class remains as a seven-year-old up against some young sprinters.

Wayfinder 5/1 four places – 15.50 Chepstow

I was tempted to include a short-priced ”banker” in the bet as I feel over the month it will often add value without overall returns being boosted when a couple place at a decent price. With some solid favourites about, this one at a short enough price doesn't make too much sense but Wayfinder is a horse to chance first time out, and I will today in the often enjoyable veteran's chase.

In 2022 he won off a 6 month break at today's C&D, completing a consecutive course and distance hattrick, last season off a seven-month break he returned in a Class 2 at Cheltenham finishing 3rd to Whacker Clan and Twig rated 124. He remains on effectively the same rating so should be able to get competitive at a course he loves. I see little reason he won't be trying so feel comfortable including him.

WHAT IS A LUCKY 15 BET?

A Lucky 15 bet consists of 15 unique bets, covering every possible combination that comes from backing four selections. The 15 bets are broken down like this:

– 1 fourfold accumulator

– 4 trebles, with each treble omitting one of your selections

– 6 doubles, again covering every possible combination

– 4 singles

The attraction of a Lucky 15 is that it offers many more ways to win than a standard accumulator. A Lucky 15 uses both your acca and your singles as well as producing trebles and doubles that reward you for correctly calling 2/4 or 3/4 of your selections. To cover the 15 separate bets, a Lucky 15 uses your stake 15 times. If you were to place £1 on a Lucky 15, you would be staking £15 in total across the various bets.
