This year's Ryanair Chase is set to be another thrilling one. I've put together a preview for you all to check out, which hopefully will help you make your decision.
Main contenders
Il Est Francais
The French raider Il Est Francais is an interesting one, and he holds strong claims for the French in this year's Ryanair Chase.
Jockey James Reveley believes Il Est Francais has an “outstanding chance” of winning this year's Ryanair Chase, with his chances depending on his jumping, holding up and handling the course.
Il Est Francais is my main selection of the day, and I've already tipped the horse on the main thread for those who wish to follow.
Fact To File
Current favourite Fact To File looks the one to beat according to the current market, and there is no doubt that he holds strong claims on the back of his recent efforts this term. His four-and-a-three-quarter length defeat to GDC is strong form, and this drop in distance should also benefit his chances.
Fact To File was probably aimed at first for the Gold Cup, but two defeats already this term to the reigning champ means connections have opted for the Ryanair.
Protektorat
The Skelton-trained Protektorat arrives here as last year's winner, and at the current prices, he looks a fair price to defend his crown. He recently thumped his rivals by 23L in the Fleur De Lys Chase at Windsor. That contest will have set him up nicely for this years Ryanair Chase, but he faces a different kettle of fish in Fact To File and Il Est Francais.
Eachway Selections
There are plenty of eachway angles into this race, with Jungle Boogie being the most obvious contender. Jungle Boogie ran well for a long way in last year's Gold Cup. He struggled to see out the trip once entering the business end, and he fell away as the classier types came through. Jungle Boogie remains lightly raced for an 11-year-old and made an encouraging return to action after a long layoff when winning by 8L at Ascot during the Christmas period. Jungle Boogie has yet to race since, assuming this contest has been the ultimate aim for Jungle Boogie for trainer Henry De Bromhead.
