Mexico Open betting tips

After a couple of weeks of big purses and stacked fields, it's time for a little bit of a breather on the PGA Tour with a trip to Mexico for the Mexico Open.

This is a tournament that has only been part of the PGA Tour since 2022 and as it follows two signature events and the well-liked Phoenix Open, it often doesn't attract all of the best players in the world.

That is the case again this year, but that doesn't mean to say the tournament will be any less enjoyable. If anything, it means there is a greater chance of an outside winner which means the potential to win some big money this weekend.

The tournament is held at Vidanta Vallarta, a par-71 7456 yarder. It's comparatively long to the typical PGA Tour track but the rough is a virtual non-entity which means it could be a great week for the longer hitters in the field.

Last year's winner, Jake Knapp, is back to try and defend his title and he is the only previous winner to be taking part with Tony Finau electing to sit it out and Jon Rahm ineligible due to being part of LIV Golf.

Mexico Open betting tips

Akshay Bhatia EW (Ten places) – 10/1

Akshay Bhatia is the most sensible betting tip this week and the player who looks to be in the best shape heading into the tournament so it's no surprise he is the favourite with all of the best golf betting sites.

Bhatia has started the year well and is yet to miss a cut line in any of the four events he has played, which is a good indication that his game is in good nick. Why that's relevant here is because it's a similar pattern to how Bhatia was performing prior to his two previous wins on the PGA Tour.

When he won the Barbasol Championship in 2023, he finished 9th the week prior and when he won the Texas Open last year, he finished 11th the week prior. Last week at the Genesis Open, Bhatia finished in a tie for 9th so all the signs are pointing towards another victory being on the horizon for the talented 23-year-old.

Bhatia has also performed well at this tournament and golf course in the past. In his most recent outing here in 2023, he finished in fourth place with a score of -18.

Harry Hall EW (Ten places) – 22/1

Harry Hall has shown in the past that he is someone to watch out for when the big boys aren't in town and that was more evident than ever when he won the ISCO Championship last year to earn himself his first-ever PGA Tour victory.

Hall hasn't kicked on like he would have wanted to since that win but his form in 2025 has been solid enough. He has two top-ten finishes from five events and has missed the cut on just one occasion. If he continues that type of form then his world ranking will certainly improve in the coming months.

Interstingly, his best performance came at the Sentry where finished in a tie for eighth. The course used for that tournament at Kapalua has often been compared to the track at Vidanta Vallarta with both being wide-open and exposed in nature.

Aldrich Potgieter EW (Ten places) – 50/1

This is a long golf course which naturally means those with immense power off the tee have a slight advantage over those who don't. When you add in the fact that the fairways are very forgiving and that the rough is practically non-existent you have a tournament that can become an ego contest for those who can hit the longest drives.

The 2022 winner of this event, Jon Rahm, ranked first for driving distance that year while last year's winner, Jake Knapp, ranked second in the same metric. Aldrich Potgieter currently ranks in first place for driving distance on the PGA Tour for 2025 and finished 2024 as the leader in this metric on the Korn Ferry Tour.

The 20-year-old is being tipped for a big future and is one to watch this year after gaining his PGA Tour card at the end of last year. He had a nervy start to the year, missing the cut in his first two tournaments but was excellent last time out at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Potgieter finished in a tie for 15th and had it not been for a poor final round of 78, he would have been a lock for a top-ten finish.
