Houston Open betting tips

The countdown to the first major tournament of the year at the Masters in two weeks time is well and truly and there are now just two more PGA events between now and the fight for the green jacket at Augusta National.

This week, the tour moves onto Texas for the first of two events in as many weeks in the Lone Star State. The Houston Open takes centre stage this week and the best two golfers on the planet, Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are both set to tee it up in their final pre-masters tournament.

While the aforementioned duo are the headline acts this week, there are also plenty of other big games taking part and the good news is, the attraction of McIlroy and Scheffler means there is plenty of fantastic value to be had on the rest of the field with most top golf betting sites.

The Houston Open is played over four days at Memorial Golf Club where competitors have to navigate a 7,475 par-70 course. A previous track record has proven key here over the years as has distance off the tee.

With that in mind, check out our Houston Open betting tips below.

Rory McIlroy EW (Ten places) – 11/2

Whenever a golf tournament is played at a course where driving distance is rewarded, Rory McIlroy should be backed at almost any price. Given that he is somehow not the favourite this week, he is even more of a no-brainer at 11/2.

McIlroy consistently tops the PGA stats chart for driving distance and that is clearly going to help this week at a course where there a par fours that measure over 500 yards in length and par fives that measure over 600 yards in length.

If you look at the four previous winners of this event since it moved to Memorial (Stephan Jager, Tony Finau, Jason Kokrak and Carlos Oritz), they all have big hitting off the tee in common more than anything else.

What's more, McIlroy is in absolute stellar form coming into this event. He is playing better golf than anyone on the planet right now and has already won two PGA Tour events this year. Momentum is invaluable and he has every chance of using that to his advantage to add another trophy to his cabinet this weekend.

Min Woo Lee EW (Ten places) – 25/1

Min Woo Lee is a great price this week at 25/1 as it feels like the talented Australian is closer than ever to his first-ever win on the PGA Tour. Lee has been playing incredibly consistent golf for a year now has finished inside the top 20 in four of his six starts this year.

This golf course is one that appears suited to his game which makes it a little surprising that this is his debut here. That in itself perhaps explains his longish odds but he is still well worth a punt this week due to this ball striking off the tee.

Only two players are driving the ball further than Lee in 2025 and those two players have both driven fewer balls than Lee which does skew the data in their favour somewhat.

Aldrich Potgieter EW (Ten places) – 100/1

Now, this tip is clearly a punt at 100/1 but I am very hot on Aldrich Potgieter and that belief in the extremely talented 20-year-old nearly paid off in a big way a couple of weeks ago when he finished in second place at the Mexico Open after going off at 50/1 on the EW (ten places).

Yes, Potgieter's form since his performance in Mexico has been ropey, at best, with three missed cuts in as many events but none of those courses have suited his raw, power-hitting game. Memorial, however, very much does.

Nobody on the PGA Tour in 2025 is driving the ball further than Potgieter which is an eye-catching stat for someone who was a teenager six months ago. Expect him to gobble up the long par fours and fives this week.
