After falling painfully just short of calling a 50/1 winner last week at the Mexico Open in the form of Aldrich Potgieter, we're back this week with some more golf betting tips ahead of the Cognizant Classic in South Florida.
The purse this week is up on the $7,000,000 that was on offer in Mexico last week which has attracted some bigger names as preparations for the first major of the year in six weeks ramp up.
This week, the players will be challenged by PGA National Resort and Spa where the tournament has been played every year since 2007. Unlike a lot of current PGA Tour courses, low-scoring is far from a given here with four of the last seven winners here winning with a score of -10 or higher.
Whoever comes out on top this week will no doubt have to perform well over the intense finish at PGA National, most notably holes 15-17 which are infamously known as the Bear Trap. The par 3 17th consistently plays over par each year which usually makes for an exciting finish.
Last year's winner, Austin Eckroat is back against this time around to defend his title but he is far from the favourite. Without further ado, here are our Cognizant Classic betting tips.
Cognizant Classic betting tips
Shane Lowry EW (Ten places) – 16/1
Shane Lowry is among the favourites with a lot of top golf betting sites but at 16/1, he still represents brilliant value. First and foremost, the Irishman was brilliant at this event last year and will still be reeling after coming up short despite going into the final with a share of the lead at the top of the leaderboard.
Lowry ultimately finished in a tie for fourth at last year's event but a win here does feel almost inevitable given that he has now finished inside the top five in each of the last three editions of the tournament.
Lowry's game does naturally stand up well here, with the Irishman proving time and time again that he is one of the best golfers in the world when the wind is blowing, so an exposed golf course in South Florida is always going to serve him well.
Nicolai Hojgaard EW (Ten places) – 35/1
You need a strong iron game to succeed at this golf course due to the high volume of bunkers and high likelihood of windy conditions. Twelve of the 18 winners of this tournament since it has been held at PGA National have ranked inside the top ten for greens in regulation so backing someone who is hitting their irons consistently is a good shout.
Nobody on the PGA Tour this season has hit more greens in regulation than Nicolai Hojgaard and given his experience on the DP World Tour, he is more than accustomed to playing golf in windy conditions.
The young Dane played very well in Mexico last week so has some momentum on his side coming into this week. He finished in a tie for eighth and is in good shape to build on that this week.
Lucas Glover EW (Ten places) – 40/1
Accuracy off the tee has been a key metric at this tournament in recent years which isn't a huge surprise given that approach shots to the green are often fraught with danger whether that's due to the large number of sand traps or the blustery weather.
Giving yourself a good look into the greens is therefore advantageous and last year's winner, Austin Eckroat, ranked third in this metric on the way to the victory while Sepp Straka ranked first in the metric when he won the tournament in 2022.
Lucas Glover is currently fourth on the PGA Tour for driving accuracy in 2025 and the three men ahead of them are all players who have never won a PGA event, making them highly unlikely winners on such a difficult course.
Glover, a six-time winner on the PGA Tour, has had some impressive showing over the past six months. He ended 2024 with two top-three finishes from his final five events and finished in a tie for third at Pebble Beach at the beginning of this month.
