Tennis Prediction and Betting Tips 2024

Alex de Minaur hasn’t played a single match since Wimbledon. That makes this US Open betting tip a rather interesting one. Our De Minaur vs Giron prediction features an upset of the Australian, who has been known as a pretty solid player for a while.

We simply don’t know what De Minaur's health is like. He injured his hip at Wimbledon and hasn’t looked great since. This matchup is a pretty bad one, as Giron doesn’t mind long rallies.

Player form: De Minaur out of rhythm

Rhythm is very important for tennis players because it all comes down to play. If you haven’t played in a long time, you’re going to be pretty rusty in your first match. De Minaur hasn’t been active in singles since Wimbledon, and he looked pretty bad in the doubles matches he played.

A hip injury is to blame, and it’s not something that gets that much better in a few weeks. Giron, meanwhile, hasn’t looked great in the last two events he played, but he won a trophy the week before that, and that’s got to count for something.

How the bookies view it: Giron major underdog

This one is based upon the assumption that De Minaur will be fully healthy. We’re not sure he is but we’ll play along. If he’s healthy he should win this one comfortably. He’s the better player and that’s why the odds are 3/10.

For Giron, it’s 14/5, which are juicy odds worth playing. We don’t think de Minaur is 100 percent, and if he’s not, he’s going to be in trouble because his hip won’t allow him to move around as quickly as he likes to. That’s half his game, as he doesn’t have any power to hit through you.

Recent head-to-head: Giron a tough matchup for de Minaur

Marcos Giron has been a bit of a nightmare matchup for De Minaur. He’s beaten him three times so far, including the most recent time they played. It's been a while since then but it makes sense because Giron is pretty underrated in tennis circles.

Anything else catch the eye?

The head-to-head is the biggest booster for this bet along with the Aussie’s injury. De Minaur hasn’t played in a while, even if he is healthy he will be rusty quite a bit. Giron has enough weapons to make this a close one.

We don’t think De Minaur is healthy, and that makes this a huge value play for Giron, who could oust the 10th seed of the event. He’ll certainly have the crowd behind him, which should help as well.

Overall, you won’t find this type of value with these odds often, so when you do, you have to take it.

Marcos Giron vs Alex de Minaur betting tips & predictions

The head-to-head is on Giron’s side. He’s the home favourite and he hasn’t been injured lately. De Minaur has been injured badly and hasn’t really played since. Feels like a no brainer!

  • Giron to win @ 14/5

The match will be played on Tuesday, August 27th, the second day of the US Open.
