Euro 2024 Bet of the day

Following on from last night’s disappointment in Germany, Friday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to Ireland, and there is one fixture in the second tier that appeals to me for goals.

⚽️ Wexford vs Bray Wanderers

🇮🇪 First Division

⏰ Friday 24th May, 19:45

Two clubs separated by two places in the Irish First Division table meet at Ferrycarrig Park on Friday evening, as 4th-placed Wexford play host to 6th-placed Bray Wanderers, and I’ve come up with a couple of goals-based selections.

James Keddy’s hosts are the highest scorers in the Irish First Division, banging in 30 goals across their opening 16 matches, with 14 (47%) of them coming in front of their supporters.

The Youths have made the net bulge in each of their previous 15 league outings – notching on multiple occasions in 10 (67%) of them, including in five of their last six on home soil – and will be confident of breaching a Bray backline that has shipped multiple goals in 6/7 (86%) of their road trips in the league this season, with the only exception being a 0-3 victory against second-from-bottom Longford Town.

Ian Ryan’s visitors are the third-highest scorers in the Irish second tier, scoring 26 goals across their opening 16 matches, with 10 (38%) of them coming on their travels.

The Seagulls have failed to score in just two of their league outings – notching on multiple occasions in eight (50%) of them – and will look to trouble a Wexford defence that has registered a solitary clean sheet in the league this season (against bottom side Kerry City), with only two sides conceding more than their tally of 27.

Bet of the Day

Wexford’s opening 16 Irish First Division matches this campaign are averaging a league-high 3.56 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals banking in 11 (69%) of them – and given the same has also landed in 11/16 (69%) of Bray Wanderers’ league contests this season – I’m hoping we see a similarly entertaining encounter to the seven-goal thriller between these two sides in the reverse fixture at the end of March.

  • Over 2.5 Asian Goal Line
  • Pays 7/8 (Bet365)
