Euro 2024 Bet of the day

After frustratingly falling a goal short at Peterborough last night, Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on Aston Villa’s Conference League semi-final second leg in Piraeus against Olympiakos.

🇪🇺 Conference League

⏰ Thursday 9th May, 20:00

Looking to overturn a two-goal deficit, Aston Villa travel to Piraeus to take on Olympiakos in the second leg of their Conference League semi-final in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.

After dropping down to the Conference League, Olympiakos saw off Hungarian side Ferencváros – and completed a remarkable comeback against Maccabi Tel Aviv – before seeing off Turkish giants Fenerbahçe in the previous round. After winning the Europa League with Sevilla last year, José Luis Mendilibar is in an excellent position to reach a second successive European final following his side’s excellent 2-4 victory at Villa Park last Thursday. Domestically, Olympiakos are in 4th position, five points behind current league leaders AEK, but do have a game in hand.

After topping their Conference League group, Aston Villa saw off struggling Dutch giants Ajax 4-0 on aggregate before squeezing past Lille on penalties in the previous round. However, four-time Europa League winner Unai Emery is in danger of failing to claim his first Conference League title following his side's 2-4 defeat at Villa Park against the record Greek champions at Villa Park last Thursday. Domestically, Villa suffered a 1-0 defeat at Brighton on Thursday, but they are still on course for a top-four finish, as they sit seven points clear of fifth-place Spurs, albeit playing one game more.

Bet of the Day

Olympiakos’ opening 25 matches in the Greek Super League and in Europe in front of their supporters this season are averaging an eye-catching 3.80 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals banking in a remarkable 22 (88%) of them and Over 3.5 Goals in 15 (60%) of them.

Aston Villa’s matches in the Conference League this term have also been full of goals, with them averaging 3.31 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals clicking in 10/13 (77%) of them and Over 2.5 Goals in five (38%) of them.

Therefore, given both sides are usually involved in goal-heavy matches and Aston Villa’s need to overturn a two-goal deficit, I’m happy to back the Over 3.0 Asian goal. This would mean if there are exactly three goals scored, we will receive our stake back, whilst four or more strikes will reward a full payout.

  • Over 3.0 Asian Goal Line
  • Pays 5/6 (Unibet)
