Football Bet of the Day: Back The Basques at Home Against Their Poor-Travelling Visitors

Looking to return to winning ways after a couple of disappointing nights, Friday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the match at San Mamés, and I’ve come up with a bet builder.

Athletic Club will look to keep their hopes of Champions League qualification alive as they welcome travel-sick Granada to San Mamés, and I’ve come up with a bet builder to get the host on side.

Ernesto Valverde’s side's hopes for Champions League qualification took a bump last Sunday as they conceded a stoppage-time penalty to draw 1-1 at home to resurgent Villarreal. Athletic are now four points behind 4th-placed Atletico Madrid – who they travel to next week – but despite that draw last weekend, they are now unbeaten in each of their previous 15 La Liga contests at San Mamés (W11-D4-L0), with that record changing to W7-D0-L0 when welcoming bottom-half sides.

Granada kept their slim hopes of survival in La Liga alive last weekend, as they claimed just their third victory of the season by defeating Deportivo Alavés 2-0. However, José Ramón Sandoval’s visitors remain 11 points adrift of safety, and that is mainly down to their horrific away record, with The Nazaríes picking up just two points from their opening 15 road trips (W0-D2-L13), with one of those draws coming away at the only side below them in the table, Almería.

Athletic Club have scored 51 goals across their opening 31 La Liga fixtures this term, with an incredible 37 (73%) of them coming on home soil. The Basque outfit have only failed to score against Real Madrid (1st) and Barça (2nd) in front of their supporters in La Liga this campaign – scoring on multiple occasions in 12 of their previous 15 – and I’m backing them to bag another double against a Granada defence that has yet to register a clean sheet on their travels this campaign, conceding a joint-worst 34 goals.

To nudge the price up, I’m happy to throw in both sides to be shown a card. This selection has landed in 28/31 (90%) of Granada La Liga encounters this season, whilst the same has paid out in 25/31 (81%) of Athletic Club’s La Liga contests.
