Euro 2024 Bet of the day

Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me tackle the European qualifiers, and there is one fixture in particular that appeals to me for goals.

⚽️ Valur ?? vs St Mirren ???????

?? Conference League

⏰ Thursday 25 July, 19:45

St Mirren will embark on their first European campaign in 37 years as they travel to Reykjavík to take on Valur on Thursday night in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.

Valur have already got their European campaign underway, as they defeated Albanian side Vllaznia Shkodër 6-2 on aggregate, which was largely due to their impressive 0-4 victory in Albania in the second leg.

Domestically, after winning just one of their opening four league matches of the season, Arnar Grétarsson’s men have gone on to win seven of their next 10 (W7-D2-L1), to move them up into third position, five points behind leaders Víkingur with a game in hand.

Despite playing one game fewer than all bar one of their opponents, Valur are the leading scorers in the Icelandic top flight, slamming in 36 goals across their opening 14 matches – as well as six across both legs in the previous round against Vllaznia Shkodër.

After finishing sixth the year before, St Mirren managed to do one better last season and finish fifth in the Scottish Premiership table.

With the Old Firm sweeping up both domestic cups, fifth place was enough to qualify for Europe, The Buddies first European campaign since being knocked out of the 1987-88 Cup Winners’ Cup by eventual winners KV Mechelen.

Stephen Robinson’s men are yet to play a competitive match this season but head to the Icelandic capital off the back of successive 2-2 friendly draws against recently relegated English League one pair Fleetwood Town and Carlisle United.

Bet of the Day

Valur’s previous 12 matches in the league and Europe are averaging a staggering 4.92 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals banking in all 12 (100%) of them and Over 3.5 Goals in a remarkable 11 (92%) of them.

Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals has paid out in 10 (83%) of them – and given The Buddies travel to Reykjavík off the back of successive 2-2 draws in a couple of friendlies – I’m happy to have a punt on there being a minimum of three strikes, with both sides getting on the scoresheet.

  • Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals
  • Pays 10/11 (Bet365)
