Football Bet of the Day

After returning to winning ways in Holland on Sunday, my Football Bet of the Day returns on Wednesday and sees me focus on the Champions League, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.

⚽️ Barcelona vs Borussia Dortmund

🇪🇺 Champions League

⏰ Wednesday 9 April, 20:00

Barcelona welcomes Borussia Dortmund to the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on Wednesday evening in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.

Hansi Flick’s hosts are the leading scorers in this season’s Champions League, slamming in 32 goals across their opening 10 matches, with 17 (53%) of them coming in front of their supporters.

The Blaugrana have found the back of the net in all 10 (100%) of their Champions League clashes, notching 2+ goals in eight (80%) of them – including in all five (100%) on home soil – and are expected to breach a Dortmund backline that has already shipped three goals at home to Barca and five away to Real Madrid in the league phase.

Niko Kovac’s visitors are the joint second-highest scorers in this season's Champions League, banging in 28 goals across their opening 12 contests, with 14 (50%) of them coming on their travels.

Die Schwarzgelben have found the back of the net in all bar one of their Champions League matches, striking 2+ goals in 8/12 (67%) of them – including in 5/6 (83%) of them away from home – and will look to breach Barca’s notorious high line, which has been breached in 7/10 (70%) of their Champions League contests this season, shipping 14 goals.

Bet of the Day

Barca’s opening 10 Champions League fixtures this campaign have averaged an eye-watering 4.60 goals per game, with Over 2.5 banking in nine (90%) of them – including in all five (100%) in front of their supporters – whilst Both Teams to Score has landed in seven (70%) of them, only failing to do so away at Benfica and in routine wins at home to Brest and Young Boys.

Borussia Dortmund’s opening 12 Champions League contests this season have averaged 3.50 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals lancing in nine (75%) of them – including in all six (100%) away from home – with five of the last seven seeing both sides obliging.

The pair already played out a five-goal thriller in the league phase – and given both sides goal-scoring record in this competition and Barca’s high defensive line – I’m expecting another high-scoring clash between these two.

  • Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals
  • Pays 17/20 (Betway/William Hill)
