Euro 2024 Bet of the day

Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day sees focus on the first of the Copa America semi-finals, and I’ve come up with a way to get the reigning champions on side.

⚽️ Argentina 🇦🇷 vs Canada 🇨🇦

🌎 Copa America 🏆

⏰ Wednesday 10 July, 01:00

Pre-tournament favourites and reigning champions Argentina will look to seal their place in the final as they take on Canada in New Jersey on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning – and I’m backing the Argentinians to claim a low-scoring victory.

The reigning Copa America heads into this clash in great form, with Lionel Scaloni’s men winning 23 of their previous 24 internationals, with their solitary defeat in that run coming in a 0-2 defeat against Uruguay in World Cup qualification.

The reigning world champions made light work of their Copa America group by winning all three of their group-stage matches, scoring five goals and conceding none – including a 2-0 success over the Canadians in the tournament opener.

In the quarter-finals, La Albiceleste conceded their first goal, a 91st-minute equaliser for Ecuador, which led to the tie being decided by a penalty shootout – and despite Lionel Messi missing with a Panenka – Argentina managed to squeeze through thanks to the heroics of goalkeeper Emi Martinez.

As alluded to above, Canada were beaten 2-0 in the tournament opener by Argentina, but a 1-0 victory over Peru and a 0-0 draw with 2015 and 2016 winners Chile was enough to seal second spot and a place in the quarter-finals.

Like the Argentinians, Jesse Marsch’s men drew 1-1 in their quarter-final against a very impressive Venezuela side who had won all three of their group stage contests and required a penalty shootout to reach the semi-finals.

Bet of the Day

As already alluded to, Argentina heads into this clash in scintillating form, with the World Champions winning 23 of their previous 24 internationals since their shock World Cup defeat to Saudi Arabia, with 21 of those coming inside 90 minutes.

What’s more, 18 of those victories featured fewer than four goals, including their five wins in World Cup qualification and their three Copa America victories – and given Canada’s four Copa America matches have featured just five goals – I’m happy to have a punt on La Albiceleste to win in 90 minutes in a fixture featuring under four strikes, just like they did against Canada in their Copa America opener.

  • Argentina to Win & Under 3.5 Goals
  • Pays 7/8 (Betway)
