FIRST-ROUND games in the League Cup have proved tough to call so keep any stakes low for tonight's ties.

On Saturday eight of the matches ended in draws and on Sunday Blackpool were surprised at home to Morecambe.

Tonight three Championship sides are in action away from home so it's a tough treble to attempt.

The side I like most are Huddersfield at Preston. We made plenty of money backing Jordan Rhodes to score first and crucially the promoted side have managed to keep their key man.

Rhodes is however on Scotland duty but even without him Huddersfield should be strong enough and they are a best 13-8 with William Hill to win at Deepdale.

The live match sees Oldham take on Sheffield Wednesday with the visitors also looking forward to life in the Championship after promotion.

Last season the Owls won 2-0 at Boundary Park and 3-0 at home so it's a tough test for Paul Dickov's home men and I'm on Wednesday at 11-10 with Coral to edge it.

If there is a shock it could be at Fleetwood where the league new boys entertain Nottingham Forest. It will be a celebration night for Fleetwood who won the Conference so convincingly that they are second favourites for the title behind Rotherham.

Fleetwood are a biggest 13-5 at Coral to shock the Championship side and if that's too risky what about Fleetwood plus one at 4-5 (Blue Square).

Recommendations

Huddersfield
(13-8, William Hill)

Fleetwood +1
(4-5, Blue Square)

Jamie, forgot about the friendlies. Just seems a crazy time to play them to be honest.

Paul some funny prices with the Rangers game already. Rangers are as short as 1/20 with Ladbrokes who offer Rangers on the ht ft market at 1/14. That’s probably the worst price I’ve ever seen. Ht ft is 4/9 with Paddy Power.

Rangers 8-0 100/1 with paddy and only 28/1 with Ladbrokes.

Sandaza, Shiels and little are only 1/3 to score at anytime with will hill.

Halftime correct score could be interesting. Rangers 2-0 7/2 and Rangers 3-0 17/2 with Paddy Power. 1-0 is only 11/5. Think they may have that wrong.

Rhodes isn’t starting, my only bet tonight

  8. Mr Chris Guy 12 years ago

Over 3.5 goals at 11/10 with Paddy Power.

Rangers -2 goals evs with Paddy Power. Fancy putting £500 on it for me Paul as they will only allow me £3.27 lmao.

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Chris, both of those bets look good to me but I can’t place them for people unfortunately. Have you tried any of the Paddy Power shops? Think there’s one opening in Clydebank soon.

  9. Mr Chris Guy 12 years ago

Think I’ll go £100 on 2-0 and 3-0 at half time.

    2-0 = £250 profit
    3-0 = £750 profit

    What you think Paul?

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Chris, I’d prefer your -2 and over 3.5 goals. Half-time correct scores too risky in my opinion.

  10. Mr Chris Guy 12 years ago

3-0 looks too big at 17/2

  11. James Coyle 12 years ago

I was only allowed £396 on Rangers – 2 Goals with PP against East Stirling. Any punter in their right mind would be bonkers not to get involved.

Rangers to b leading after 20mins at 7/5 with Paddy Power. That is a winner if u ask me

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Jonathan, I agree with you there even though Chris is suggesting something else. But surely if there’s a goal it will be for Rangers. I know Peterhead did well but Shire are another level down and it’s at Ibrox.

  13. Mr Chris Guy 12 years ago

No Better to do first goal before 20 mins

  14. Andy 12 years ago

Rangers before 20 mins at 7/5 sounds too big

  15. Jonathan Grieve 12 years ago

Yeh Paul,if,there’s gonna b a goal it has 2 b for Rangers surely. 1st goal under 20mins is only 10/11 Chris

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Jonathan, I’d agree with that. Can’t see Shire scoring.

  16. Mr Chris Guy 12 years ago

I think everyone is missing the point here, either that or I’m a tad confused. I know if any team is going to score it will be Rangers, I thought the bet you guys were talking about was for rangers to be winning after 20 mins and not before which in that case it ain’t that good as I expect them to be winning before hand. Ok im off to the theatre as I have a patient to deal with now. Paul that would be great if paddy opened a shop in Clydebank. I don’t imagine they would be so bad at restricting prices in the shop

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Chris, I think we’re talking about the same bet but with different working. Some people will say Rangers to be winning after 20 minutes when they mean to be leading at the 20th. I thought you were saying take a goal in the first 20 rather than Rangers to be leading. By the way the only theatre you’ll be in is at the Edinburgh Festival.

got to fancy plymouth v portsmouth tonight a hink, think only ben haim still there but he’s gettin sacked so dont know if he’ll play, same scenario as gers only 95% worse. added in brum, charlton, cardiff in eng cup and airdrie and partick in scot cup. fiver returns £61 wi a free fiver for the wknd :)

  19. craig alves 12 years ago

portsmouth only got youth development players this season as still not allowed to sign players, 6/5 for bournemouth at PP away at pompey at wknd looks massive as it will disappear if they get humped by plymouth the night

  20. Alex walker 12 years ago

They were 2to1 last wk to beat pompey. But watch as pompey iave had some good pre season results!

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Alex, Craig, I’ve backed Plymouth to win at a shade above evens but best I can see now is 10-11. From what I gather they will be struggling tonight with a team made up mostly of youth players. The good friendly results came when they were using loan players and trialists but they’re not allowed to play at Plymouth. They lost 2-1 at Salisbury with a similar side to the one that will play tonight. I’d take Plymouth tonight but be careful about the weekend because they could have up to five loan signings in by then or the signing ban could be lifted totally depending on their financial situation.

  21. craig alves 12 years ago

cheers for info at wknd paul, will keep an eye on situation. only got 3/5 on plymouth the night tho but more than happy if all come in. free bet only a single so it’ll prob go on horse on correct score today if something catches eye

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Craig, price keeps dropping, now 8-11 is best I can see. Putting up some tips for tonight in a few minutes.

  22. dee Moore 12 years ago

Was wondering if you fancied them. Good sweat.
