A blistering run of form from Newcastle's Swedish talisman Alexander Isak has garnered a great deal of interest from a multitude of Premier League clubs.
In spite of the admiration being shown for the player, the Magpies have stood firm in their stance regarding Isak, retaining that he is not for sale, and placing a price tag of £150 million on his head.
With his record this season, it is easy to see why Eddie Howe rates the striker so highly. 22 games played across all competitions, Isak has racked up 15 goals, with a record of 13 in 18 coming solely from his league appearances.
A recent hat-trick against Ipswich was the standout performance in a run which saw the Swede score nine goals in just seven matches, finding the net at least one time in each fixture.
Now, with more xGOT per 90 minutes than 83% of the league's forwards, as well as the third highest goal tally behind Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland, some of the best club's in the English top flight are keen to take the striker off Newcastle's hands.
Current favourites
Chelsea – 14/1
As Newcastle remain in pole position to keep their main man at least until the summer window, the team with the likeliest chance of securing Isak in January appears to be Chelsea. This appears to be a valuation based purely on budget considerations, however, as the Blues have been huge spenders since new owner Todd Boehly's inception.
Although first-choice number 9 Nicolas Jackson has managed a respectable nine goals so far this season, there have been some murmurs of discontent amongst the Chelsea fanbase, as goalless team performances against Ipswich and Everton showed that there is still work to do for Enzo Maresca's side in the attacking department.
Hardly an affordable fix, however, it would appear likely that the Senegalese striker will remain the primary option at Stamford Bridge for the time being, with bookies pricing a switch for Isak at 14/1.
Man City – 16/1
Another option that seems just slightly too good to be true for the Swedish forward would be a move to the Etihad.
Although Manchester City have already demonstrated their intentions in this window by making moves for both Omar Marmoush and Abdukodir Khusanov for reportedly sizeable fees, most would agree it is out of the question that City would view finding competition for Erling Haaland as a transfer window priority.
Stranger things have certainly happened in football, but with the big Norwegian trusted to play 90 minutes of almost every game, it would be a waste of the 25-year-old's career to sit on the bench under Pep Guardiola.
At 16/1, the Etihad does not seem a likely destination for Isak this January.
Arsenal – 20/1
Although viewed as clear outsiders by the bookies, we judge that Mikel Arteta's Arsenal may actually be a good punt for bettors considering their current price.
Most of the media intrigue surrounding a potential move for the 13-goal striker has been centred around the Gunners, with the North London club in desperate need of a clinical marksman.
Injuries to both Bukayo Saka and, most recently, in-form Gabriel Jesus have left Arsenal rather thin up top, with a missed penalty from Kai Havertz in the cup demonstrating the potential need for reinforcements.
Although probably unable to cough up the £150 million asking price, a negotiation for Isak may not be totally out of the question. From the options available, punters should certainly take a look at Arsenal.
