AFCON 2025 matchday 4 predictions

Matchday nine of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations features four fixtures across two groups, as teams take to the pitch for the final round of the group stage.

Games within each group will be played simultaneously, with Group C up first. Already-qualified Nigeria face Uganda, while Tanzania go head-to-head with Tunisia in the other fixture.

Group D follows later in the day, as Botswana meet DR Congo and the Republic of Benin lock horns with Senegal.

With plenty at stake across the board, MRFixtips has identified the most reliable betting angles to consider from all four encounters.

Uganda vs Nigeria: Tuesday, December 30 – 16:00

The two sides come into this Group C clash with contrasting motivations. For Uganda, this is a must-win encounter, while Nigeria have little riding on the outcome.

The Super Eagles have already sealed top spot after back-to-back victories over Tanzania and Tunisia, whereas the Cranes have picked up just one point from their opening two matches.

With qualification secured, Nigeria could rotate their squad, while Uganda are expected to field their strongest available side. As a result, the goals market looks the most appealing angle here.

Uganda have both scored and conceded in four of their last five matches, with nine of their last 14 outings producing over 2.5 goals. Nigeria, meanwhile, have seen goals at both ends in seven of their last eight games.

Recommended bet:

Tanzania vs Tunisia: Tuesday, December 30 – 16:00

The second Group C fixture of the day sees Tanzania face Tunisia, with knockout qualification still very much on the line for both sides.

The Taifa Stars have collected just one point from their opening two matches and must win here to finish second, provided Uganda fail to claim victory in their own fixture.

Tunisia, by contrast, only need to avoid defeat to secure the runners-up spot in the group.

With those circumstances in play, this contest is likely to begin cautiously before opening up as the pressure increases. That could lead to greater attacking intent after the break.

Supporting that view, seven of Tanzania’s last eight matches have produced more goals in the second half, while Tunisia have conceded six times beyond the 80th minute across their last five outings.

Recommended bet:

  • More goals in the second half – 23/20 (Ladbrokes)

Botswana vs DR Congo: Tuesday, December 30 – 19:00

Already eliminated, Botswana are playing for pride alone as they take on DR Congo, who remain in the hunt to finish top of Group D.

Two defeats from their opening two matches leave the Zebras rooted to the foot of the table, while the Leopards sit second after an opening-day victory over Benin and a draw with Senegal, trailing the leaders only on goal difference.

A win here would be enough to send the Leopards through as group winners if Senegal fail to beat Benin. That incentive should see DR Congo push forward with intent against a Botswana side that have faced 21 shots on target across their first two games.

With that in mind, Cedric Bakambu looks well placed to register multiple efforts on target in what should be a one-sided affair.

Recommended bet:

  • Cedric Bakambu to record two or more shots on target – 33/20 (Ladbrokes)

Benin Republic vs Senegal: Tuesday, December 30 – 19:00

The other Group D fixture pits Benin against Senegal, with places in the top two still to be finalised. Senegal currently sit at the summit and a convincing win would likely confirm them as group winners.

Benin, meanwhile, are already assured of a place in the knockout stage as one of the best-ranked third-placed sides, but victory here would secure direct qualification.

Despite the competitive edge to this contest, Senegal hold a clear advantage based on recent meetings, having won seven of the last nine encounters between the sides, and that trend could come into play here.

Recommended bet:

Senegal to win – 2/7 (Ladbrokes)
