THE Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club is the 10th consecutive year the course has hosted this event.
This is the final tournament those players on the edge of qualifying for the Fed-Ex Play-Offs get a chance to cement their position.
Unfortunately because the Wyndham follows the US PGA a lot of the top players are giving it a miss but there is still a great field.
Sedgefield has smaller than usual greens which are undulating and fast, so GIR and Strokes Gained: Putting could be important stats.
Two players stand out for me this week. Kevin Kisner played some excellent golf last week at Quail Hollow and although he couldn’t sustain that form in the final round if his head is in the right place he could be pushing again here.
I don’t think he has a weakness and could be a Major winner in the future. Sedgefield has Bermuda greens and Kisner is one of the best on Tour on this type of grass. His last two outings here were top-10 finishes so has course form. GIR: 67.17% (40th) Strokes Gained:Putting : 0.474 (18th).
My second pick is Kyle Stanley. Although since winning the Quicken Loans National he has struggled a T14 here last year doesn’t hurt his chances. He has missed two cuts since then but they were The Open and last week at Quail Hollow. Although his putting seems to be his weakness he is top in Greens in Regulation. With his overall game the 29-year-old American should really be competing at the top in the majority of competitions. I think he has a good of doing that this week. GIR: 70.73% (1st) SG:Putting: -.303 (168th)
Chez Reavie is a difficult one. He has only had three top 10s this year and quite a few missed cuts but his stats equate to a better player than that. He’s not the longest off the tee but his GIR stats are good. At the US PGA he was steady and finished a good T22, following on from a T23 at the Canadian Open a couple of weeks previous. Looks to be on the up and might be worth a small wager. GIR: 67.44% (32nd) SG:Putting: .214 (64th).

Disappointed in final round last week in pga really hope hideki matsuyama doesn’t become the Monty equivalent. Anyway onto this week.
It’s almost like the new years day party when all the main guys have not recovered from the previous night. I been to enough new years day party and they been awful.
Anyway can’t disagree with Kevin kisner the way he played last week he is a good shout.
Also taking
webb Simpson 25/1 over the years at various events I thought web would do well and maybe it’s this time every year as he got great record here
Other pick Ryan Moore also 25/1
Another like Simpson who does well here. Horses for courses. 3 top 10s here plus a win. And a nice price
Good luck
Plenty of time for Hideki but needs to learn to scramble better when he’s not hitting greens.
I hate tournaments after a Major so it’s a no-bet week for me.
