If you’re looking for a few dog bets on Thursday evening, then you'll be pleased to know that there's plenty to choose from, with four evening meetings coming our way from Hove, Monmore, Newcastle and Swindon.

Today’s greyhound tips

From a betting point of view, tonight’s card at Newcastle has piqued my interest. Detailed below are three potential bets, odds allowing as always.

Tip 1: Skeard Josie (take odds of 2/1+)

Race #4 Newcastle @ 19:27

The fourth race at Newcastle tonight may be all about Trap 5 as the betting forecast would suggest, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the early market follows suit. However, the bitch in Trap 4 is not one to forget about.

For my money, Skeard Josie represents a great bet, especially as support for the orange jacket should leave her available at decent odds.

Blackhouse Kim won well last time out, but her recent OR record isn’t amazing, and she really does face stiff competition from the dog on her inside, who has posted some strong times in OR’s at Newcastle of late, while I think the trainer, who has two other dogs in here, has this set up for her to go well.

I’d make her a narrow favourite for this and if she’s available at 2/1 or bigger when the prices go up, I’ll be getting involved.

Tip 2: Stronger (take odds of 6/4+)

Race #11 Newcastle @ 21:28

Next up is the penultimate race on the card and this is a contest that Stronger, situated in Trap 4, should really be dominating.

Easily the dog with the best times in here, the runner in the black jacket has one win from one run in Trap 4 under his belt at Newcastle, while he’s a dog that’s won better races than this in the not so distant past.

Successful at A1 level back in May, I think it's fair to say that he's a little leniently graded at the moment, let’s be honest.

In this race, he’s likely the early pace angle and if he can get out with haste, then there’s no reason why he can’t string this lot out. For me, the boy in Trap 4 has got a clear leading chance and if anything like 6/4 is available later on, I’ll be all over him.

Tip 3: Hardwicke Apollo (take odds of 2/1+)

Race #12 Newcastle @ 21:46

Lastly, I’m interested in the final race of the night at Newcastle, where Trap 3 looks to have a big chance of getting the job done here.

Raced mainly in A4’s of late, this dog, who runs for a trainer that has a decent strike rate at this level in 2024, nearly took advantage of the step back down to A5 company last time out, finishing second, and for my money, he can go one better here.

Not out of the top two in any of his last three runs in this grade, the white jacket has several A4 wins on his CV, and with little in the way of early pace either side of him, he can get to the first bend in front. If he does that, a race of this nature will certainly be at his mercy.

Acca bet & other markets to explore

For those interested in a treble, if (at the very least) the odds listed as the minimum odds to take are available when these races are chalked up, you’ll be looking at something around the 21/1 mark.
