PADDY POWER have pledged to refund all pre-match bets on England following their shock defeat to Ireland in the Cricket World Cup.
Irish eyes were smiling as they pulled off what bookies have hailed as the biggest upset in England’s cricket history with 10-1 shots Ireland turning over an England team who were
33-1 on to win the match.
I was also smiling as my Bonkers Bet came up. I tipped a century in the match at
13-8 – but didn't think it would come from an Irishman.
Paddy Power are paying out punters more than £80,000 after a betting plunge on the Irish who clearly fancied pulling off the shock result.
England are now 10-1 to win the World Cup from 13-2 before the match. Ireland remain long shots to go all the way despite their victory but their odds have been slashed from 1000-1 to 150-1 to win the World Cup.
Coral have put England out to 12-1 from 7-1 after the Irish chased a World Cup record 328 to win.
In-running turnover hit new levels for the second England match in a row said bookies as everyone tuned into the cricket upset of the century.
Coral's David Stevens said: “When Ireland were 111-5, England were 1-500 to win and the match looked over as an in-running event until Kevin O’Brien’s heroics.
“England looked out of sorts again, and having gained just three points from as many games and been unable to defend 327 against Ireland it’s hard to see them winning the World Cup now.”
