Racing tips: Storm Dennis can make a winning start over the larger obstacles at Stratford

The racing in France was good this weekend but quite tricky in terms of betting hence why I only put one up on Sunday. Unfortunately, Teresa Mendoza wasn't up to scratch in the l'Abbaye, but I still think she is a horse to follow in the future back in Ireland or the UK in a slightly worse race.

As we enter October it's nearing the time for the Jumps season which is where my favourite type of racing takes over. So with that being said, I've picked two out from Stratford as nothing took my fancy on the flat meetings.

Stratford 1:00

Originally, I thought Shetland Bus was worth a try in this but with an uninspiring record over fences of 0/12 I think he is best to stay away even though his recent run at Uttoxeter was a very good run and the form looks fairly solid. I tipped Templehills to win this race last year when he was running off a reduced handicap mark and he finds himself running off an even lower mark that when winning this, so has to be respected but with his tendency to jump like a snooker table you have to be brave to back him with the inconsistency in his form.

I think STORM DENNIS is worth chancing on chase debut, which isn't always a clever idea as you never know how they will adapt to the larger obstacles, but from what we've seen from him over hurdles I think he should be okay with the transition. He ended last season with two wins where he clearly appreciated the step up in trip to 2m 5f from the minimum trip 2m. The form of the last win at Kempton where he beat Carys' Commodity rates as good form in my eyes. That horse was rated 134 and has since opened his account over fences at Stratford, recording an RPR of 143, so is clearly a well-above-average horse. Horses in behind like Herbiers ran well at Cheltenham after they met, finishing runner-up and Stoner's Choice has won over fences since, recording an RPR of 142.

Storm Dennis will have to defy a seven-month break to win this, but with the Chris Gordon being in strong form (5-14 36% SR) I think he is worth a chance that he is in good enough fitness.

Stratford 3:20

To my eyes, this race should be between DYNAMIC KATE and Land Of My Delight with the former taking my money.

Something has definitely clicked with Dynamic Kate in recent times as she has managed to get two wins from her last three runs, including a runner-up in between the wins, which is much better than the record of 0/12 before getting the win. The apprentice rider who takes the ride again today, Thomasina Eyston has struck up a good partnership with the horse and considering she takes off 7lbs again I think she is worth backing again, as she'll be clear at bottom weight and the manner in which she won at Fontwell was eye-catching, to say the least. She has been put up 8lbs by the handicapper for that win but I think there's still some more to come.

I briefly mentioned Land Of My Delight, who is the lightly raced horse in the race and ran well off a fairly long absence last time out in July finishing behind a horse who is on the up. It's strange we've not seen him since, so has to defy another short absence and has to prove this step up in trip is what he wants at this point in his career, but with him being so unexposed he rates a serious danger.
