The York Dante meeting starts tomorrow, but Rizzel has picked his four best selections coming from Worcester, Perth & Bath.
Worcester 4:00
YAUTHYM didn't jump well last time out at Market Rasen, but still managed to run a good race, finishing 3rd.
Fergal O'Brien has kept her off the track for 38 days, where I'd have imagined he has drilled her with schooling sessions over the hurdles. She has been unlucky to bump into a few horses, and has been placed 6x out of her 7 starts over hurdles.
She's a horse with ability, which has been shown by the fact she was placed in a Class 1 fillies juvenile hurdle race last year. There are a few unknowns in this race, but I'm willing to believe that her jumping will have been brushed up on, and she should be tough to beat.
Perth 5:40
SLANELOUGH finally got his head in front in a chase race last time at Ayr. He was starting to become extremely well handicapped, and that was proven as he won by 3.25 lengths.
The handicapper has put him back up 4lbs for that win, which is probably fair, but it shouldn't be enough for him to not win again. Perth is expecting a few showers from now till when racing begins, so the ground could potentially turn to soft, which would probably help him, as most of his best form has been on soft/heavy ground.
This race doesn't look extremely competitive, with Away At Dawn, probably posing at the main threat. Morningside is a horse I like the look of, but I think he will be best seen when tried over further.
Perth 6:40
ASTUTE BOY has sucked me in to believing he is extremely well handicapped.
Last time out on chase debut he finished 4th at odds of 125/1, 6 lengths behind Getareason, who was previously trained by Willie Mullins & Paul Nicholls, and was 131 rated. The fact Astute Boy got that close to Getareason (131 rated), First Lord De Cuet (136 rated) and Thegallantway (125 rated), off equal weights, makes me think that he was probably flattered, but after watching the race back, he stayed on very strongly and it looked like he was well handicapped.
For some strange reason, the handicapper hasn't touched his rating of 87, which I find bizarre, maybe he thinks he was flattered as well? Either way, I think the step-up in trip could suit, as he was staying on strongly, but he is definitely worth a shout, on the back of that run at Hexham.
Bath 7:20
NORDIC DASH could be a handicap blot for new trainer Harry Eustace.
This horse has been campaigned as a 7f horse, but the pedigree would suggest she would excel over further, especially middle distance trips. The Dam stayed 1m 2f, and has produced a lot of nice horses, such as Dash Of Spice and Barshiba, who were both over 100 rated in their prime.
This isn't a strong race, and I think off a mark of 55, she could be worth chancing on handicap debut.
