THERE aren’t many Saturdays with better jumps racing than today over the course of the season.
We have plenty to get our teeth stuck into at Aintree and Sandown with lots of old favourites going into battle and I have my eyes on the Grand National fences as usual where they run in both the Becher and Grand Sefton over the famous course.
The big graded chase of the day is the Tingle Creek at Sandown where Altior is now a non-runner. I’m not having a bet but if you forced me to pick one I think that Rouge Vif’s performance last time out puts him right in the mix for this.
1.30pm Aintree
I am taking a chance here on ASO who is a horse I love and who should be suited by the jumping test here. Stamina is definitely a concern but Venetia had him entered for the National itself last year so she must think that he will be ok if he gets into a good rhythm. He looks a very big price to me and make sure you get the extra places on offer.
1.50pm Sandown
ALLMANKIND was really impressive on his first start over fences and although he has stiff competition here with Hitman and Eldorado Allen in particular I think the 5/2 currently on offer is great value.
3.00pm Sandown
Another one that is a shorter price than I would normally tolerate is CLOUDY GLEN in the London National. He is clearly progressive over staying trips and can go in again here where he meets lots of sturdy staying chasers who we already know plenty about.
3.15pm Aintree
I backed BEAU BAY last year in this at 40/1 and he duly obliged with a third place finish. The fences and distance are just about right for him and he comes into the race off a 1lb lower Mark this year so he once again looks like a big price and a good each way prospect.
3.35pm Sandown
The current price for NICKOLSON is very big, so much so that I am slightly concerned that conditions aren’t right for him. He is a young hurdler making his handicap debut on what looks like a very fair handicap mark to me and he should be a lot shorter in the market.
